Subject: RE: Peter, Paul & Mary, What's My Line? From: Joe Offer Date: 19 Jul 14 - 05:17 AM As a young teenager, the thought of Dorothy Kilgallen putting on that sequined mask, gave me troubling thoughts... Dorothy Kilgallen's last appearance on What's My Line? on November 7, 1965. Within five hours of the live program's end, she was dead - alcohol and barbiturates. |
Subject: RE: Peter, Paul & Mary, What;s My Line? From: GUEST,henryp Date: 19 Jul 14 - 04:39 AM The panel - who were not teenagers - had to identify PP&M without seeing them and without hearing them sing! The panel had confirmed they were a team - but didn't know how many there were in the team, that one was female, or that they were singers. PP&M weren't even in New York for a concert. The panel member who identified them from so little information was obviously well aware of them. |
Subject: RE: Peter, Paul & Mary, What;s My Line? From: Wesley S Date: 18 Jul 14 - 08:39 PM Most of the folks on the panel were more attuned to Broadway than folk music. But it's obvious that Woody knew them. I'm guessing that he knew them from the Village when he was doing standup comedy. Ya never know. |
Subject: RE: Peter, Paul & Mary, What;s My Line? From: GUEST,Guest Date: 18 Jul 14 - 08:34 PM I am the guest/guest above. Sorry I appear to have strayed on to a thread that is nothing to do with me as it concerns an American programme. Still amazed there was a problem with PP&M! |
Subject: RE: Peter, Paul & Mary, What;s My Line? From: mayomick Date: 18 Jul 14 - 12:16 PM Sorry, I see now he was on the panel!I remember seeing something where he was a blindfolded guest putting on a tough guy accent -very funny. |
Subject: RE: Peter, Paul & Mary, What;s My Line? From: Wesley S Date: 18 Jul 14 - 11:30 AM Watch it again. He was a guest panelist. |
Subject: RE: Peter, Paul & Mary, What;s My Line? From: GUEST,Tunesmith Date: 18 Jul 14 - 11:30 AM Not in this episode! |
Subject: RE: Peter, Paul & Mary, What;s My Line? From: mayomick Date: 18 Jul 14 - 10:57 AM Woody Allen was a mystery guest , not a panelist |
Subject: RE: Peter, Paul & Mary, What;s My Line? From: Joe Offer Date: 18 Jul 14 - 12:23 AM Interesting that this distinguished panel would have trouble identifying the occupation of Seiji Ozawa. This was 1963. Ozawa didn't start performing extensively with U.S. orchestras until 1964, but he soon became very well known in the United States. |
Subject: RE: Peter, Paul & Mary, What;s My Line? From: Janie Date: 17 Jul 14 - 11:32 PM Walk down memory lane. Fun! Thanks, Tunesmith. |
Subject: RE: Peter, Paul & Mary, What;s My Line? From: GUEST,Gerry Date: 17 Jul 14 - 09:35 PM Woody, PPM --- and Seiji Ozawa! Quite a lineup. |
Subject: RE: Peter, Paul & Mary, What;s My Line? From: Wesley S Date: 17 Jul 14 - 08:55 PM I loved seeing Woody Allen as a panelist. I'm sure they played some of the same clubs at some point. |
Subject: RE: Peter, Paul & Mary, What;s My Line? From: GUEST,Guest Date: 17 Jul 14 - 08:10 PM I find it hard to believe that anyone, even old fuddie duddies long since dead, would have any problem indentifying them. Having mostly for most of my adult life been turned off rather than on by television, I am at a loss as to the format of this "show". Where they there to encourage people to watch an otherwise uninspiring programme? |
Subject: P, P & M, What;s My Line? From: GUEST,Tunesmith Date: 17 Jul 14 - 05:11 PM Peter, Paul and Mary's 1963 appearance on the Tv show "What's My Line" has recently been posted on Youtube. Their slot starts at 20 minutes. Peter, Paul and Mary 1963 |
