Subject: Lyr Add: MAMA TAKE CARE OF YOUR DAUGHTER (Hooker)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 29 Jul 14 - 12:35 PM

Someone started a thread called "Lyr Req: Mama take care of you". However, something is messed up about the thread. When I click on it, all I see is a blank screen. Anyway, I suppose the requestor was referring to this song:

MAMA TAKE CARE OF YOUR DAUGHTER*
As sung by John Lee Hooker on "I Wanna Dance All Night" (2013)

Mama, talk to your daughter for me.
Mama, Mama, Mama, talk to your daughter for me.
Tell the girl I love her; I'll do anything she say.

Mama, tell her come back home to me.
Mama, set down and talk to your daughter; tell her please come back home to me.
I'd do anything for your daughter, Mama; I'd do anything she say, she say, she say.

Mama, I hate to see her go.
Oh, Mama, I hate so bad to see her go.
I'd do anything for your daughter, in the world I can do for her, oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah.

Mama, Mama, Mama, I got tears, yeah, in my eyes, Mama.

Mama, Mama, Mama, I got tears standin' in my eyes, Mama.
Talk to your daughter, now Mama.
Mama, talk to your daughter; talk to your daughter for me.

I love that woman; I love that woman.
I love that woman and I don't want to see her go, oh-oh-oh.
No, no, no, no, no, Mama.
Oh—.

Mama, talk to your daughter; Mama, talk to your daughter for me.
Mama, talk to your daughter; Mama, talk to your daughter for me.
I love that woman, now, Mama; Mama, hate—Mama, hate—Mama, hate to see the woman go.

[* I don't know why the song has this title; that phrase doesn't appear in the lyrics.]

Subject: Lyr Add: MAMA TALK TO YOUR DAUGHTER (J B Lenoir)
From: Jim Dixon

This song is obviously related, and perhaps the source of the above song:

MAMA TALK TO YOUR DAUGHTER
As sung by J. B. Lenoir on several collections.

1. Mama, Mama, please talk to your daughter 'bout me. (2x)
She have made me love her and I ain't gon' leave her be.

CHORUS: You should talk to your daughter; you should talk to your daughter. (2x)
She have made me love her and I ain't gon' leave her be.

2. I ain't gon' stand no quittin' and she won't dog me around. (2x)
If she dog me around, she'll sleep six feet in the ground.

REPEAT CHORUS.

[This song has been covered by many, many blues singers. The title is sometimes given as TALK TO YOUR DAUGHTER.]

"If she dog me around, she'll sleep six feet in the ground."

The guy sounds like a stalker, not a lover. Mama, collect your daughter and leave town.
====================
This song doesn't sound like the answer to the recent thread which was inquiring about a soothing lullaby.
