I have the same problem with the pedal on my electric piano! I think it's caused by the sound of the metal spring inside it. The pedal is made of rubber. Not sure what can be done to fix it? When I play with my headphones on so as not to disturb other people, all they can hear is squeak squeak!!

Thanks for the link, Ross. Looks like they have the same idea I had - that dry lubricants are best, and nothing petroleum-based.
I've used graphite successfully on piano squeaks before, but it makes a mess. They have graphite suspended in liquid that then evaporates - that sounds good to me.

Soap. Rub over the area with the edge of a bar of soap. If any of the rubbing squeak is caused by contact with wood, soap should help. Ivory would be okay, but something heavier might be better. Lifebouy or Dial or even a good olive oil soap. It's what carpenters use to keep drawers from sticking and such.

We have a grand piano and a baby grand at church, and both regularly have trouble with loud squeaks in their sustain pedals. Any suggestions on how to lubricate out the squeaks? I rubbed candle wax on the metal shaft connected to the pedal on the grand, and the squeak went away for a while - but not from more than a few weeks.

I tried a dry spray lubricant on every friction point I could find on the baby grand, but it still squeaked. I'm very reluctant to use an oil-based lubricant.

I hate to call in a tuner for just this problem, and it seems there should be an easy solution. We have a hot, dry climate, and I'm sure that doesn't help the pianos much.
