Subject: RE: EARLY! Aug. Press Room Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 10 Aug 14 - 04:02 PM Let's see it I can eat a late lunch and get this posted... (Okay, that worked; now I'm trying to keep a cat off my shoulder because I can't type with her in my lap and she really prefers to stand either on my carotid artery or on my trachea, which REALLY complicates life...) The crew yesterday was me (Linn Schulz = Bat Goddess), Dianne Lavoie, Nick Noble from Worcester, Lynn Noel and Phillip Nimeskern, Justine Donovan, Susan Young, Alan Eaton, Ramona Connelly, Carol Coronis, (which means we had all four London Julies), Bill Lehrman and Carol Pierson, Marty Stock (Bupkes) and several more people from Gloucester who I didn't get a chance to talk to or find out their names, Lynn Feingold, and Jeff Warner. Also in the audience was Alan's son Stephen and his wife and kids and Gail Diderickson and her sister Janice. And Ellen and Dave Hamil. We were decidedly weighted towards the feminine side -- a hen frigate for the most part. Lynn, Lynn, and I don't often get to be in the same room together so yesterday was a treat. We've been threatening for several years to sing together as a group and call ourselves "Three Jolly Rogues Named Lynn". My suggestion is that one of them change the spelling of their name to Lynne and then, when asked how to tell us apart, we can say, "By our names." 1. All For Me Grog - Alan Eaton 2. Home, Dearie, Home - Linn Schulz 3. Congo River - Dianne Lavoie 4. A Drop Of Nelson's Blood (Roll the Old Chariot) - Nick Noble 5. Bedford Whalers (Masefield poem) - Lynn Noel (her setting of the poem) 6. Stormalong John - Justine Donovan 7. Race of Long Ago - Linn Schulz 8. Sitting On the River On the Levee (Noah Built the Ark) - Susan Young 9. Strike the Bell - Alan Eaton 10. Twelve Gates To the City - Lynn Noel 11. Five Constipated Men In the Bible - Dianne Lavoie 12. Haul On Your Sequins (Million Dollar Line) - Lynn Noel 13. Blow Ye Winds In the Morning - Nick Noble 14. Wild Goose Shanty - Alan Eaton 15. Sailor's Prayer (Tom Lewis) - Linn Schulz 16. Tinker, Tailor (Tom Lewis) - Dianne Lavoie 17. If I Were a Blackbird - Ramona Connelly 18. Heave Ya Ho - Marty Stock 19. Bay of Biscay - Lynn Noel (who also learned it from the Tim Hart & Maddy Prior LP) 20. What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor? - Carol Coronis w/Sue Young on bodhran (That was the kick ass Greek rock 'n roll version...) 21. Saltpetre Shanty (Tom Lewis) - Justine Donovan 22. Nancy Belle Brig - Nick Noble 23. 34 Essex Street - Lynn Noel 24. Aunt Clara - Linn Schulz (don't ask...) 25. Amelia Where You Bound To? (Across the Western Ocean) - Susan Young 26. A-Roving - Ramona Connelly (sort of "Maid of Portsmouth Town"...) 27. Cruising 'Round Yarmouth - Linn Schulz 28. Sprig of Thyme - Dianne Lavoie 29. Cape Cod Girls - Alan Eaton 30. Give Us a Drop of Brandy-O - Marty Stock 31. Backside of Nantucket Point - Linn Schulz 32. Spanish Graves On the Isles of Shoals - Lynn Noel 33. Mrs. McGrath - Justine Donovan 34. Lover's Wreck - Carol Coronis 35. Maggie May - Linn Schulz 36. Little Ball of Yarn - Lynn Feingold 37. Go To Sea Once More - Jeff Warner 38. Greenland Whale Fisheries - Nick Noble 39. The Rosabella - Dianne Lavoie & Lynn Noel 40. Help Me To Raise 'Em - Justine Donovan 41. Black Betty - Dianne Lavoie 42. All Through the Ale - Jeff Warner 43. Mary Mac At Sea - Jeff Warner 44. The Old Clockwinder - Lynn Feingold 45. Nelson's Prayer - Jeff Warner and the Company There...lunch, two phone calls and a cat attack later... Please let me know if and where I've screwed up as a scribe. Linn |

Subject: RE: EARLY! Aug. Press Room Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 09 Aug 14 - 08:54 PM Guest, as far as I know, that name is taken. Great session. Started out with only four of us, but you'd never know it from the volume and energy. But it grew. Right from the get-go, it was as if we had worked out arrangements. Really good session. Makes me wish I'd brought the wherewithal to record it. Actually, I think I'll start doing that again (only digitally this time). I stopped recording the sea music sessions when Tom lost his voice to vocal cord cancer. Anywho, I'll post the crew and the playlist tomorrow. Right now I'm going to bed. G'night! Linn |

Subject: EARLY! Aug. Press Room Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 03 Aug 14 - 03:04 PM This coming Saturday, August 9th, will be the IRregular monthly Shanty, Forebitter and Ballad Session at the Press Room, Daniel St. in Portsmouth, NH from 3:30 to 7:30 PM. For this month only!!! Yes, I know it's summer and there are many gigs and other things scheduled... And it's the SECOND Saturday of the month instead of the usual THIRD Saturday to accommodate a session member who could only schedule his wedding on the third Saturday. (Yes, I know, too, how complicated THOSE plans can be!) But please come this Saturday; let's join our voices and make the Press Room rafters roar! Linn |
