Subject: Ella Jenkins Documentary Needs Help
From: GUEST,Tim Ferrin
Date: 20 Aug 14 - 10:55 PM

Hi Mudcats,
I'm a bit of a Mudcat lurker, but I thought readers would be interested in knowing about the project I'm currently working on.

I'm a Chicago-based documentary producer and I've been working with Ella Jenkins in pulling together material for a film about her extraordinary life and work. For those who have lost track, Ella just turned 90 years old on August 6th, and she's still making music for kids and the young at heart.

We're in the process of recording and gathering footage and materials, so we can tell Ella's story in a timely fashion. We're working hard to get the word out about our crowdfunding campaign in support of the film, as we line up interviews and plan to follow Ella as she travels this fall: www.indiegogo.com/at/ellajenkins

For our contributors, we're offering some exclusive t-shirts, official Ella Jenkins Hohner harmonicas, CDs, downloads and other great stuff. (Including a tour of Smithsonian Folkways Archives.)

In addition to working with Ella, we've been in cahoots with Ella's label, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, and Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music in pulling material together.

I'd be happy to answer any questions or queries anyone has. I can be reached via email at this link I'd also be interested in hearing about any special footage, photos, recordings or other material that readers have, which we might be able to use for the project.

I encourage you to pass this information along to anyone or any group you think might be interested in this important project. There are also facebook and twitter feeds for the doc, if you're socially mediated.

I appreciate your support in advance, and your sharing of the campaign. Thanks for your time. I hope to hear from some of you soon!

All my best,
Tim Ferrin

Subject: Final Day: Support Ella Jenkins Film!
From: tferrin
Date: 29 Sep 14 - 11:31 PM

Hi,
Just a quick note to remind you that today is the final day to pledge support to the Indiegogo campaign for the film about the life and work of Ella Jenkins!

Ella just turned 90, and is still at it, singing songs and teaching kids and families all over the place. But did you know she also broke down barriers of gender and race, worked in the Manhattan Project lab at the University of Chicago and integrated more than one workplace, including Chicago television?

Check out the campaign site, and pledge if you're so inclined. Even if you can't donate, please share the campaign so that we can get this project made before time runs out:
www.indiegogo.com/at/ellajenkins

Ella's touched so many lives over nearly 60 years of music-making, I'm certain she plays into the music made by many fellow Mudcats.

Thanks much,
Tim Ferrin
