Last Saturday night in the Spa Theatre at Whitby Folk Festival, was one of the most enjoyable nights I have had for years. A new 'Supergroup' has emerged. First a set from the 'Mighty Doonans' followed by a set from the 'Wilson Family'. Then during the interval, the audience were left to wonder what was going to happen next. What we got was the two bands together on stage for an hour of fantastic entertianment. It was refreshing to see two big name bands their own styles streets apart, getting together to produce what they did. The friendship and mutual respect for each others work was obvious, and felt by everyone in the packed theatre. We know what fine singers the Wilson Family are, but I just wonder how many people knew what fantastic 'musicians' they were! I don't know who's idea it was, whether it was the festival or the bands themselves, but it has to be repeated surely.
