Subject: RE: Black Velvet Band in Minor key From: GUEST,Don Stevens Date: 24 Aug 14 - 03:43 PM Our favorite version of The Black Velvet Band, has always been The Dubliners. Probably not the one You're lookin' for. Many others have recorded it, including Armagh, The Blackwater Boys, The Clancy Brothers, Country Roads, Dropkick Murphys, Hugo Duncan, Empty Hats, Jesse Ferguson, Terry Griffin, Mark Gunn, Hair Of The Dog, Harry Hibbs, The High Kings, The Irish Rovers, Johnny Kelly & Ther Capitol Showband, Tommy Makem, Joe Markley, Mickey Modell, Dermont O'Reilly & Fergus O'Brien, Paddy Reilly, Ronan Quinn & Matt Glover, The Sandsacks, and many others. I think every Irish Singer, or Group, that we have ever heard, played/sand The Black Velvet Band. |
Subject: Black Velvet Band in Minor key From: GUEST,Adele Date: 23 Aug 14 - 04:21 PM I heard a haunting version of this standard in a minor key on Clare FM about a few years ago, and I can't remember the artist. I had recorded the song on a cassette but that's gone, too. It was a male singer. The chorus was omitted until the very end: "Now I'm far away from my friends and companions, betrayed by the Black Velvet Band." Does anyone know who the artist may be? |
