Subject: RE: The 10/8-Penny Bit From: Jack Campin Date: 25 Aug 14 - 05:46 AM Look at Middle Eastern sheet music resources and you'll find a lot of stuff in sama'i (semai in Turkish). "Lamma bada" is the best known outside the Middle East. It's a bit more sophisticated than just a time signature. The percussion accompaniment recognizes light/high and heavy/deep beats, "tek" and "dum". Each bar of the semai pattern goes dum --- --- tek --- : dum dum tek --- --- |

Subject: RE: The 10/8-Penny Bit From: GUEST, topsie Date: 23 Aug 14 - 04:51 PM I looked at the thread title - 10/8-Penny Bit - and worked out that 10 eighths of a penny is a penny farthing. Are there any possibilities there for a song/tune/dance? |
Subject: The 10/8-Penny Bit From: Jack Campin Date: 23 Aug 14 - 04:38 PM I saw two people doing a clog dance at Whitby to a 10/8 version of the Tenpenny Bit. It was a bit hard for me to hear it properly from where I was standing. Anybody got an ABC or YouTube link for it? |
