Did anyone find a foldaway instrument stand in either the Minerva or Black Boy? Mine is no longer in my guitar case and Hull is the last place that I remember using it.

I had a good time in The Minerva, Black Boy and Green bricks and even got co-opted into the shanty choir on the stage of the green bricks. Nice to see old friends Maggie, Les, Gordon, McGarry, Annie, Derek, Malcolm, Roy and others.

That's great news Steve. We had a fantastic weekend at the festival, there were some great acts on and very welcoming and friendly music sessions in the pubs. Well done to everyone involved in making it happen. Roll on HFF 2015!

Well done to all of the organisers. For a little relatively new festival it provided a wide variety of music, plenty of entertainment and helped Hull on its way to 2017.

We're already planning for next year, funding or not, and the maritime element is beginning to take off again.

No but the council might start to consider this problem after 2017.

The compound where they held the fun fair at the Freedom Festival, or the compound where they had the Indian display on the Sunday would be ideal, but that would need forethought and common sense!

Historic Ship of the Year, Humber Keel, Daybreak, will be arriving on Thursday.

Other boats confirmed
Humber keels, Comrade and Evangeline
Historic yacht, Tegan
Humber survey boat Conservancy.

Possibly Spider T (sloop)

Unfortunately mainly due to the short notice all of the other historic boats on the Humber had other commitments.

I presume you mean shanty. And there will be a shanty performance from a hastily assembled shanty chorus in addition to the (free) maritime concert on Sunday afternoon at the Maritime Museum. There are a number of maritime acts appearing at the concerts, including Shanty Jack, Jim Radford and Spare Hands. Again, all free.

If you meant a shady element, well, probably, yes.

It may not be apparent from the website, but the Minerva Singaround will run throughout the festival in the Minerva pub, in the Boat Room - that's the longish room beyond the bar. Maggie and I will be in attendance, at least most of the time, although there will be times when I have to become a Spare Hand.

The upstairs room at the Olde Black Boy in High Street is available as a musicians' session room throughout the festival. That's not the stairs facing you as you enter the pub but the stairs leading up from the door on your right. If you are confused by this are you sure you should be going to a musicians' session? If you're not sure that there are any musicians there you could ring Adam on 01482 470480. Or better still, go and start up yourselves. It's not like they don't sell beer!

There is a large and very cheap car park only a few minutes walk away from the Old Town/Marina area. It's just over North Bridge, on the corner of the junction with Cleveland Street. You can park there all day for a couple of quid. I use it all the time and can never get my head around the fact that it's never even close to being full!

When Malcolm refers above to the short walk across the river of course he refers to the River Hull, the lesser of our two rivers. And although he, being Malcolm, can manage to walk across the river, there are bridges available for us lesser mortals. If you're in the carpark outside the Premier Inn you can walk over our new 'flipper' bridge, the Scale Lane pedestrian bridge, and end up at Ye Olde Black Boy, turn right for Sailmakers and left for rest of t'stuff.

Adam of the Black Boy has dedicated his upstairs room throughout the festival for a musicians' session. That's Ye Olde Black Boy pub in High Street. Lots of real ale and a wonderful atmosphere in Hull's oldest pub.

If you are commuting between there (and/or the Sailmaker's Arms) remember to pass under the rather busy Castle Street. Head for the River Hull tidal surge barrier.

Most events free, but main concerts for Martin Simpson and for New Rope String Band are now on sale from Hull Box Office.

The nearest totally free parking I know of is back of Anlaby Road off Icehouse Road on the west side and on the east side anywhere on Victoria Dock. Otherwise there is plenty of 2 hour free parking in the vicinity of events. The town centre muti-storeys are not expensive per day.

Unfortunately the Council don't seem to have got their head round the idea of campers yet, but they might realise after 2017 when it's too late.

We (three units in a cottage)found the parking at Whitby much easier than in previous years once we got our heads around it.

Our cars never moved for the whole week - oh them creaking knees.

Regarding parking in Hull - yes Mr Red it has become much harder to find FREE parking in the town centre as is common in most towns and cities.

The car park at the Deep is relatively inexpensive (£3 for six hours) and only a short walk over the river to Humber Street.

If I remember from the Shanty Festival days (and it looks to be a similar sized festival) it will be a bit of a walk to find on-street parking. I remember passing a statue of David Whitfield in the process. But not the one they unveiled in 2012! Streetmap of the postcode of the Minerva (the Minerva is not exactly on the arrow)

Hull Folk Festival is based around the Minerva pub and the rest of the Old Town. Funding from Hull City Council came in rather later than we would have wished, but we are nonetheless extremely grateful. Martin Simpson, Young Uns, New Rope String Band, singarounds, sessions, dancers, open mikes and lots more.

The Hull Folk Archive Exhibition will be upstairs in Thieving Harry's on the corner of Humber Dock Street and Humber Street.

The Historic Boats (Keels/Sloops etc.) will be on display in the Marina on Humber Dock St side. Unfortunately no public allowed on board as we couldn't afford the insurance and all the street furniture safety stuff the Council insist on. Maybe next year. No stages on board either for same reason.

Free Maritime Concert 2-4 Sunday 14th in Maritime Museum main gallery - Beggar's Bridge, Hissyfit, Spare Hands etc.
