I hear it on some tv show but could find nothing online. Is it a Mermaid type of creature?

The blue men of the Minch. A stretch of water between the Hebrides and the Scottish mainland supposedly inhabited by kelpies or storm demons.

Not sure if you can call them kelpies, which I believe live in inland lochs and pools. The blue men are psychopathic enthusiasts of poetry who (if I recall correctly) will jump on a boat and demand that the sailors answer a riddle in verse (Gaelic of course). If you don't come up with an immediate reply you're dragged down and drowned.
