Subject: Info wanted on song 'Grandfather Brian' From: Tradsinger Date: 30 Aug 14 - 06:15 AM Does anyone know any more about this song - it's called Grandfather Brian and there is a set of words here. . I recorded a chap singing a version of it in Gloucestershire but the webpage suggests it is American in origin. Has anyone else come across it? Tradsinger |

Subject: RE: Info wanted on song 'Grandfather Brian' From: Tradsinger Date: 30 Aug 14 - 09:12 AM Thank you, guest, whoever you are. So the song was written by the Newfoundland composer Johnny Burke [1851-1930]. Good. Surprising that it found its way to rural Gloucestershire. I wonder if anyone recorded it on a 78? Tradsinger |

Subject: RE: Info wanted on song 'Grandfather Brian' From: Tradsinger Date: 31 Aug 14 - 01:38 PM The title page says 1860, but was that the first printing? Very grateful for your help on this, which has enabled me to put a learned footnote to an on-line collection which is being prepared. I've probably got all I need on that song. Can I put some more your way?! Tradsinger |
