Subject: Lyr Add: BOWLING GREEN (from Cousin Emmy) From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 Sep 14 - 12:39 AM Not quite the one you wanted, but I am doing the easy ones first: BOWLING GREEN As sung by Cousin Emmy with The New Lost City Ramblers* 1. I wisht I was in Bowling Green, setting in my chair, One arm around my purty little gal, an' the other'n round my dear, Other'n round my dear. Bowling Green, oh, good ol' Bowling Green. 2. Ever see that man of mine, tell him once for me, If he loves another gal, I will set him free. Yes, I'll set him free. Bowling Green, oh, good ol' Bowling Green. 3. Wisht I was a bumblebee sailing through the air. Take my feller by my side; touch** him if you dare. Touch** him if you dare. Bowling Green, oh, good ol' Bowling Green. 4. I'm goin' through this wide old world, goin' through alone. I'm goin' through this wide old world; I ain't got no home. I ain't got no home. Bowling Green, oh, good ol' Bowling Green. Bowling Green, oh, good ol' Bowling Green. * Verses 1, 2, & 4 appear on: "New Lost City Ramblers with Cousin Emmy," 1968. Various artists, "Classic Old-Time Music from Smithsonian Folkways," 2003. New Lost City Ramblers, "50 Years: Where Do You Come From? Where Do You Go?" 2009. Verses 1, 2, 3, & 4 appear on: Cousin Emmy: "Kentucky Mountain Ballads," 2009. ** "Touch" is pronounced "tetch"—which caused me at first to mistake it as "catch." |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bowling Green - folk From: MGM·Lion Date: 01 Sep 14 - 12:53 AM Surely one of those country songs which can share 'floaters', of the "sew that gal to my coat-tails" type, with so many others like Old Joe Clark, Going Down Town, Cindy, et al? ≈M≈ |
Subject: Lyr Add: BOWLING GREEN (from Kossoy Sisters) From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 Sep 14 - 08:46 AM BOWLING GREEN As sung by The Kossoy Sisters with Erik Darling on "Bowling Green" (1997) and "Red, White & Bluegrass: An American Bluegrass Celebration" (2006) 1. Wish I was in Bowlin' Green, sittin' in a chair, One arm around my pretty little girl, the other round my dear, The other round my dear. Bowlin' Green, hey, good old Bowlin' Green. 2. If you see that man of mine, tell him once for me, If he loves another girl, yes, I'll set him free. Yes, I'll set him free. Bowlin' Green, hey, good old Bowlin' Green. 3. Wish I was a bumblebee sailin' through the air. Sail right down to my feller's side; touch him if you dare. Touch him if you dare. Bowlin' Green, hey, good old Bowlin' Green. 4. Goin' through this whole wide world; I'm goin' through alone. Goin' through this whole wide world; I ain't got no home. I ain't got no home. Bowlin' Green, hey, good old Bowlin' Green. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bowling Green - folk From: GUEST,CJB Date: 01 Sep 14 - 10:34 AM Thanks for for all the words - these I know of after an extensive search. It is the words to the actual performance that I am seeking. It was an East Devon based folk group called the Wayfarers that are proving problematic. They ran a folk club in Devon. They were on a London Folk Song Cellar recording in the 1960s. The link to their rendition is above. In order to properly document and record their performance I need the words to the song as sung by them please. Verse 3 seems to be unique (what there is of it - it was truncated during a cassette recording turnover event). Many thanks. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bowling Green - folk From: saulgoldie Date: 18 Apr 23 - 01:33 PM I'm trying to find the lyrics for the "massacre at bowling green" song by this fellow:Tim Kieschnick Something about "never remember, never forgett..." the massacre at bowling green It was a riff off of Kellyanne Conway's comment about the "great Bowling Green Massacre" that actually only happened between her ears. Does anyone have a clue? I know it's a bit dated. Like what Tom Paxton calls "short shelf-life songs." But if we don't remember, we will surely forget. Thanks. Saul |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bowling Green - folk From: GerryM Date: 19 Apr 23 - 08:41 PM Maybe Saul is thinking of "That Day in Bowling Green", written by Dave Stinton, recorded by Nick and Gabe, posted at https://youtu.be/-api7B5x9E0 |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bowling Green - folk From: saulgoldie Date: 20 Apr 23 - 08:39 AM Thanks, Gerry. That's a good one. But not the one I was looking for. It is the one by this guy: Tim Kieschnick I couldn't find it with several different Internet searches. I hoped that someone here on Mudcat might have some knowledge. Thanks. Saul |
