Subject: 'Blood Red Roses' in 'Holby City' From: GUEST,Claire M Date: 04 Sep 14 - 02:31 PM Hiya! Was watching said series -- which I love --- & there was an amazing unaccompanied version of 'Blood Red Roses' ("go down you blood red roses, go down, ohhh you pinks & posies…..") , sung round the bed of a fisherman w/ mercury poisoning(!) no idea who it was really by, but I loved it. |

Subject: RE: 'Blood Red Roses' in 'Holby City' From: GUEST,surreysinger Date: 05 Sep 14 - 12:24 PM One of the singers, referred to as "Slim" was Keith Kendrick aka Derby Ram on here. |
Subject: RE: 'Blood Red Roses' in 'Holby City' From: GUEST,surreysinger Date: 05 Sep 14 - 02:20 PM I have checked with Keith who advises me that, apart from himself, the other singers were Nick Hart, Barney Keen and Dave DeRose, all members of Peter Truin's London Shanty Choir. The chap in the bed was an actor, and not participating in any of the singing. |
Subject: RE: 'Blood Red Roses' in 'Holby City' From: GUEST,surreysinger Date: 05 Sep 14 - 03:53 PM As you were - I got that wrong apparently due to a misunderstanding. The actor who was playing the character with the problem, in fact took the lead in the song, and the chorus and harmonies were provided by those named in my last post(and the other actors also took part). Don't know what the names of the actors concerned were though. Hope that helps. |
Subject: RE: 'Blood Red Roses' in 'Holby City' From: Tattie Bogle Date: 05 Sep 14 - 07:02 PM Oo-er, Claire M: is it recent enough to get it on iPlayer? Or has anyone Youtubed it? In a slight thread drift, I had a similar moment while watching a film on a long-haul flight - something to do with a wedding in the 1930s: they had a barn dance after the wedding, and the tune played was the "Seven Stars" jig: I had to keep re-winding the film to see/hear it again! |
