Could anyone help me find the lyrics to this Graeme Miles song please. I cant seem to find them anywhere on t'interweb. This of course could be because I'm an old luddite and simply don't know what I'm doing. Thanks

You could buy the Martyn Wyndham-Read-sung version for 99p on Amazon (or elsewhere) and figure them out: http://www.amazon.co.uk/When-Green-Man-Walks-Forest/dp/B003ZXT4FG / From the excerpt on that page, the words sound pretty clearly enunciated.

"January's all but over, February comes soon..."
I'll post it in full when I can access my database, but you can get the complete lyric - along with many more - in the marvellous book Songscapes. One of Graeme's finest songs IMHO.

"When the green man walks the forest we'll know then we'll know."
I think this is a line from the chorus.

Here it is:

WHEN THE GREEN MAN WALKS THE FOREST
(Graeme Miles?)
As recorded by Martyn Wyndham-Read on "Where Ravens Feed"

1. January's all but over; February comes soon.
The pale sun late rises as cold as the moon,
And the thrushes and the finches make scarcely a tune.

CHORUS: Oh, when will this winter be over? When will this winter be done?
When the Green Man walks the forest, then we'll know spring's begun.
When the Green Man comes a-walking, then we'll know; then we'll know.

2. The ditches and the gullies lie deep under snow.
On the bushes and hedges not one leaf on show,
And the bulrushes rattle in the stream's swollen flow.

3. The foxes and the kestrels all through the grey day,
Scan the white barren landscape in search of their prey,
And if foxes and kestrels could speak they would say:

4. High on the fellside crouched by the stone wall
The shepherd is a-sheltering away from the squall.
He curses the weather and loudly he calls:

Thank you for posting the link to Martin Wyndham-Read. I am ashamed to say I had little knowledge of his output. My fault, which I am delighted to remedy. Just like finding a great book and realising the author has so many more!!
