The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA, to those below a certain age) has recently released a microsite within its online resource which makes available a wide range of material recorded at the Góilín Singers Club in Dublin over many years. Quite a few 'catters past and present represented.

Incidentally, that site will be a very useful source for live recordings of many songs mentioned on Mudcat. I'll try to post links as the opportunity arises.

Regards

Just spent an hour browsing through this amazing resource. Gives a wonderful insight into the strength of unaccompanied singing in Ireland. Take your time!

It's back online... teething problems.

For those who have never been to the Goilin, it gives a great sense of how the club operates - be sure to watch the video interviews with some of the founders and early members. The approx. 700 songs from 200 singers give a vivid picture of the strength of the Irish singing tradition.

Regards

Worth a listen is Frank Harte's illustrated talk about Napoleonic songs. It's 1 hour and 7 minutes long.

Reminds me of the final delay as the official release of his 2 CD set on Napoleon was due - the booklets wouldn't fit into the case!

"Reminds me of the final delay as the official release of his 2 CD set on Napoleon was due - the booklets wouldn't fit into the case!

I remember hearing that they had to use the finest paper possible in order to make this booklet fit into the CD case. The stuff they finally used was the same as that used in the Gideon bibles. Mine still rips a bit more every time I take it out!

A very impressive piece of work...

Ian
