Anyone remember their reaction / opinion on hearing the electric guitar played through a fuzz box on this LP ?

At that time [1970] was it a shocker, or no big deal for you....???

I liked it. I play acoustic myself, but admire well played distortion.

I liked it. It fit. I had been listening to The Byrds, Fairport Convention, etc., so the idea of electric guitars playing folk songs was not a problem.

It was way cool then, and, having just relistened recently, it is still way cool. Still on my "You've got to hear this!" list.

It was Pentangle, so I thought it was some medieval thing, I never realized till this thread it was electric anything. Who need perception when you can have expections, eh?

I loved it. I incorporated some of Renbourn's Lord Franklin licks into my acoustic arrangement.

I can clearly remember playing chess with a friend with the newly purchased LP playing in the background and being riveted by the whole arrangement. I may well have lost the chess game or resigned - it was no longer important. The electric guitar was the crowning moment of the track. The way it is handled is so beautiful and tasteful I feel it should be required listening for anyone contemplating using an electric guitar in traditional folk music.
Still my favourite version of Franklin.
As someone else says in the other Franklin thread running on Mudcat:John Renbourn might not have the greatest voice but the way he sings the song has something special.
