Heavens we has Berwickers in last night and I specifically asked them and even though I'd had a few drinks I was sure I'd remember but struggling here. Sorry! Anyway there are sessions on two nights of the week midweek. One was in a pub called The Pilot and I shall dig in my memory to come up with the other place and what the nights were! What am I like?

way back in 1986 I was in Berwick for 2 nights and had my EFDSS handbook. I rang round and (company vehicle) was prepared for a 100 mile round trip just to get to a folkie event. All the entries for the relevant days were out of date by 18 months (6 months publication time and the latest edition was due out).
In the end I drove to various architectural/historic sites and those were my evenings.
And in 1988 in digs (Oxfordshire) during the week I found lots of folkie events and decided the information should not be kept secret so I started a database, printed it out and gave it to libraries in the area. Then had it published in two folk magazines as well.
Now I maintain cresby.com so if you venture to Gloucestershire & environs (Exeter to Shrewsbury and Cardiff to Oxford ish). There are a long lists that can be reduced to a radius (with "found here"). And I link to listing sites within and adjacent to my area and there is also a page for RoW (areas further away ie Rest of World). There are a goodly number of us "information junkies" but coverage is patchy.

Moorley Man we have two sessions at Kelso Folk & Live Music Club on a Friday night. A few years back we only played at the Cobbles but because the dining got so popular we started another earlier session as it was getting harder to have space in the pub until later in the evening. Any type of music welcome as long as it is live. So at the moment the earlier session which starts about 8pm is in the Kelso Golf Club and this goes on to approx 10:30pm. Not big numbers at the moment but can be good fun.

The Cobbles Session normally gets going around 9:45pm with David Kilpatrick and myself usually kicking it off with if we are lucky some traditional players. Others from the Golf Club then tend to arrive in about 10:30. What the evening is like totally depends on who turns up and everyone is welcome. Goes on until the back of 1am or so. Normally starts of with Scottish and other folk songs/tunes then gets more 50s, 60s, 70s standards as the night goes on.

On Thursday if you're prepared to travel another 20 minutes or so there is Denholm Folk Club in the Cross Keys at Denholm (between Jedburgh and Hawick) which is a great going club. Again mostly modern acoustic music with some traditional songs too.

On Wednesday there is a new session which just started last week in the George&Abbotsford in Melrose. Didn't get over myself but it looked like they had a good night on FB. Seems to be mostly Americana etc rather than folk but I'm sure all would be welcome.

Jim
This is a long shot, but myself and 4 pals are having our annual musical get together this weekend, fri, sat and Sunday in berwick. We are looking for a pub/pubs to play and sing a wide range of music. Was searching for ideas and I found this forum. If you find anything, can you let the forum know and we can do the same.
Cheers

Thanks everyone for the ideas so far.
Will check out the places referred to on your link Ray T., and I'll also contact David Kilpatrik since Kelso is just about feasible from where I'm staying, but it's not looking promising for the week otherwise.
Cheers!

The Kelso sessions have always been there. No problem finding out about those, David Kilpatrick and the others are very informative. Berwick is another story. I've never met anybody who's been to a session or singaround there. And public transport in north Northumberland is disastrous, so surrounding towns are out.

Looks like the Kelso sessions are on Friday nights now at The Coobles, and seem to be mixed. Info on www.scottish-folk-music.com.

We were writing followups at the same time.

I'd be more interested in locating instrumental sessions, but don't have up to date information. I have this on file from David Kilpatrick, writing from Kelso in 2002:

There should be a pub session on Thursday June 6th at the Pilot Inn in Berwick (quite near the station). This is usually Irish/bluegrass/Scottish with fiddle, banjo, cittern, whistle, not very strong on songs. Can be busy.

The only entry they have in Berwick is a link for a pub called The Barrels, but it's domain-parked.

Thanks for the suggestion Mr Red, but nothing much north of Newcastle is listed on F&R except for a non-functioning link for a pub in Berwick.

Yeah, I found that the last time I was up there, a couple of years ago - some great musicians-only sessions but virtually nothing for singers. Hence my starting this thread..

I'll be staying just south of Berwick-upon-Tweed from 11 to 17 October - any singer-friendly sessions or clubs etc within decent travelling distance during that time?
