Just read the article posted by Gealt. Obvious that there will be a lot of people affected far more than myself.

What a thoroughly thoughtless move.

Yes Jim, it will certainly affect me, I'm in England and I listen to RTE quite a lot in the car and when I'm working in the garage (which is most days now I am retired). When long wave is switched off, only option will be on-line, and I can hardly take the computer down the garage. Besides, the Wi-Fi won't work down there at the bottom of the garden.

What with that and the switch where I live from "Classic Gold" to "Smooth" radio, I am being forced to abandon the radio altogether!

When I'm in Ireland I listen to Radio 4 on long wave, especially when cricket is on, so if/when they scrap that, end of!!!!

Bloody nuisance to say the least.

Rog

"Do you not have an FM or DAB radio? "

Long wave transmitters have a far longer range than FM and DAB transmitters. The OP is presumably wants to listen from outside of Ireland.

The BBC has said that they're on the last set of valves for their long-wave transmission.

Radio 4's long wave goodbye

They may last 10 years or they may fail tomorrow.

I wonder if RTE has some spares?

It won't affect me, but I'm genuinely interested to know why you will be affected.

Do you not have an FM or DAB radio?
