Subject: RE: Obit: Jack Bruce (of Cream) RIP (1943-2014) From: Bob Hitchcock Date: 08 Nov 14 - 09:01 AM What a great loss, an amazing bass player and musician. I saw Cream live at the old Top Rank in Brighton back in 1967 and my ears are still ringing from that show. R.I.P. Jack |
Subject: RE: Obit: Jack Bruce (of Cream) RIP (1943-2014) From: voyager Date: 27 Oct 14 - 02:49 PM Maybe Jack Bruce just "went down to the Crossroads, tried to flag a ride" Crossroads - Cream Loved his work on that masterpiece. RIP voyager |
Subject: RE: Obit: Jack Bruce (of Cream) RIP (1943-2014) From: Edthefolkie Date: 27 Oct 14 - 11:16 AM When I heard of Jack's death I thought of Tolkien's letter to his daughter about the death of C S Lewis. "So far ..like an old tree that is losing all its leaves one by one - this feels like an axe-blow near the roots." RIP Jack Here's Jack plus two other blokes doing a bit of folk music called the Cutty Wren. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_txpe6Ie2Nk |
Subject: RE: Obit: Jack Bruce (of Cream) RIP (1943-2014) From: GUEST,Fyldeplayer Date: 27 Oct 14 - 03:03 AM Besides the great contribution to Cream, the solo albums are excellent, I have played Consul at Sunset in acoustic sessions and Harmony Row is a terrific and inventive collection, even a track called Folk Song! |
Subject: RE: Jack Bruce RIP From: GUEST,RB Date: 26 Oct 14 - 11:31 AM one of the greats. the music world is a bit less bright. bless you Jack |
Subject: RE: Jack Bruce RIP From: Dave Sutherland Date: 26 Oct 14 - 09:19 AM Farewell to a musical legend; I first saw Jack with Graham Bond back in 1965 and I have followed his career ever since. His appearance in Nottingham in 1987 with Dick Heckstall - Smith and the Norman Beaker Band remains the greatest gig I have ever seen. Strangely enough I had been playing "Songs for a Tailor" in the car all last week – what an album! RIP Jack. |
Subject: RE: Jack Bruce RIP From: GUEST,gillymor Date: 26 Oct 14 - 07:41 AM Not so odd when you consider their line of work. I remember the exact moment when I first heard Crossroads and it knocked me on my ass. I was as much taken by the bass playing and trio interplay as Clapton's killer guitar. A great talent was that man. |
Subject: RE: Jack Bruce RIP From: pdq Date: 25 Oct 14 - 04:16 PM Phil Lesh (Grateful Dead), John Entwhistle (Who) and Jack Bruce (Cream) were all highly-trained musicians and could play other instruments. Phil Lesh is actually an Avant-garde composer. Like Paul McCartney, they probably decided to buck-up and do bass because nobody else wanted to. They all amused themselves by inventing counter melodies and lead improviation, not just rhythm bass. There have been louder and more raucus bass players in Rock Music, but none better than those three. Odd, but Phil Lesh, like Jack Bruce, also received a liver transplant. |
Subject: RE: Jack Bruce RIP From: Bonzo3legs Date: 25 Oct 14 - 03:56 PM Their BBC session recordings were tons better than the records! |
Subject: RE: Jack Bruce RIP From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 25 Oct 14 - 02:33 PM 71 - not a bad innings... Remember that's 71 in hard playing rock star years; which would equal about 140 in normal human years !!! TOP 10 CREAM SONGS Really is tough to pick a favourite, but today I'll go with either "White Room" or "Tales of Brave Ulysses"... |
Subject: RE: Jack Bruce RIP From: GUEST,Gilly Date: 25 Oct 14 - 02:19 PM Another maestro has gone. He was a wonderful player and his music will live forever. RIP Jack. |
Subject: RE: Jack Bruce RIP From: GUEST,Tunesmith Date: 25 Oct 14 - 02:02 PM When I first heard Jack with "Cream" I remember thinking,"Wow, rock music really has at last come of age". Here's Cream's wonderful "White Room". White Room |
Subject: RE: Jack Bruce RIP From: Bonzo3legs Date: 25 Oct 14 - 01:54 PM When Cream were on Saturday Club or maybe the John Peel programme, my tape recorder would be left on record/pause with my finger ready to release it when they were announced, because tape was too expensive to record the whole show - unlike today when the full show is recorded direct to PC then edited down! |
Subject: RE: Jack Bruce RIP From: Les from Hull Date: 25 Oct 14 - 01:28 PM One of my heroes. And I didn't have many. |
