Subject: Sussex Folk Guide - Total Redesign From: Vic Smith Date: 27 Oct 14 - 09:46 AM The SUSSEX FOLK GUIDE, the comprehensive guide for that county and the surrounding area has now been totally redesigned so that it works properly on mobile phones and tablets. I think that it also looks better overall and is clearer to read - but I would welcome opinions. - http://whatson.brighton.co.uk/Folk/ |

Subject: RE: Sussex Folk Guide - Total Redesign From: Vic Smith Date: 28 Oct 14 - 06:37 AM The Sussex Folk Guide is provided as a free extra service for those who advertise in THE FOLK DIARY. As joint editor of that magazine, I simply transpose the information from the adverts to this site, This takes me about six hours each month and I have never been paid a penny for providing this service. I do it because of my enthusiasm for folk music. West Sussex advertisers such as Willows Arundel, Folk On The Coast Bognor, Chichester Pickers, South Downs Festival, Partridge Green, various dance organisation in Horsham, Pulborough and Chichester and Horsham folk club represent more than 40% of the listings so your claim for under-representation for West Sussex is unfair. No mention at all about what is on at such excellent clubs as Chichester?? Until recently the Roots Around the World promotions were regular advertisers and mentioned in the listings but that was when they were promoting some lovely folk/roots/country/world music events and I was a regular attender at their well presented events. In recent times their promotions have moved away from that base towards Indie Rock/Electric Blues bands and rightly they consider that people who pick up THE FOLK DIARY would not be so interested so they no longer advertise.. The long-running first class Chichester Folk Club - we will be making a visit there in the next few weeks - chooses not to advertise and so is not mentioned in THE SUSSEX FOLK GUIDE. THE FOLK DIARY also has an on-line version - a facsimile of the printed edition - and I maintain this at http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~tinvic/fd.htm When I put in so many hours a month, distributing, editing, seeking advertisers, seeking payment, chasing copy, answering enquiries, all as an unpaid enthusiast, and then read uniformed criticism like the one above, I wonder why I bother. |
