Here's a very interesting video of the song Night Before Larry Was Stretched sung by Johnny Moynihan with a bit of help from Ronnie Drew back in the black and white 60's.Worth looking at the other clips which cover the whole of the ballad opera film.

Must make it in some night, Fergie. Just not in Dublin much these days. Have met some of them at various sessions, festivals etc., of course.

That's a great article. I've been to the Night Before Larry Got Stretched session many times and it is always excellent. It's great to hear young singers learning the songs and taking a fresh approach. Tradition shouldn't mean static and the NDLGS collective have brought a great new dynamic to the singers' club scene here in Dublin. If you doubt it get a copy of Lynched CD; Cold Old Fire. It blew me away from the first listen. Fresh, raw, vivid, dynamic and a great listen.
