Subject: Tasteless Songs About Space From: Jack Campin Date: 02 Nov 14 - 08:15 PM I was in a session this afternoon where somebody did David Bowie's "Ground Control to Major Tom". He's done it before, but it was extra appropriate in a week when two separate initiatives to spread capitalism to the empyrean have literally gone down in flames. I thought about playing the Tornados' "Telstar", but hey, Telstar actually worked. Any more fried-astronaut ditties? |
Subject: RE: Tasteless Songs About Space From: Big Al Whittle Date: 02 Nov 14 - 09:09 PM yes i suppose the Branson dimension does lend poignancy to the lyrics. in the same way that the Falklands business seemed to impart meaning to the Last Goodbye. its not quite folk music - but it feels like the seeds of folk music. |

Subject: RE: Tasteless Songs About Space From: GUEST,Ed Date: 03 Nov 14 - 12:09 PM By no means tasteless, but a very fine space song is The Imagined Village's take on Ewan MacColl's Space Girl A couple of lines from the last verse certainly have a resonance with recent events though: My mama told me never trust a space engineer But I did, I did, I did. She said freefall and superdrive would surely cost me dear And they did, they did, they did. |
