Subject: RE: Jody Kruskal UK gig SE London 14 Nov From: Herga Kitty Date: 12 Nov 14 - 04:04 AM We booked Jody at the Herga club after he dropped in for a floor spot, and he gave us a great evening - sadly it was the last time I heard Ralphie play, as Jody was staying with him and he joined in for some of the tunes. I've also seen Jody at a Haddenham concert - you're in for a good time on Friday though unfortunately I won't be able to join you! K |
Subject: RE: Jody Kruskal UK gig SE London 14 Nov From: GUEST,Clive Pownceby Date: 11 Nov 14 - 06:53 PM As Frank Sellors has commented he was a fresh breeze at last Sunday's Bothy Singers Night. He won us all over with his musical skills and upfront stage presence. I'm sure Southport won't have seen the last of him. Floor-spotting just for the heck of it was an old practice that often led to gig-getting in the glory days and I see nowt wrong with it now. I see he was at it again last night in Stockport - commendable. A new name to me and I'm supposed to be in the know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Jody Kruskal UK gig SE London 14 Nov From: GUEST Date: 11 Nov 14 - 01:29 PM Jody did a couple of numbers at The Midway, Stockport on Monday, when James Keelaghan and Hugh McMillan were the guests. He was excellent and I would have loved to have heard more. |

Subject: Jody Kruskal UK gig SE London 14 Nov From: GUEST,The Goose Is Out! Date: 08 Nov 14 - 08:37 AM The Old Nun's Head 15 Nunhead Green, SE15 3QQ London, United Kingdom 7.45pm, £7, Floorsingers very welcome. Jody Kruskal sings vintage American songs and play tunes on the Anglo concertina. He is from New York City, yet performs regularly in the UK. His concerts offer a warm and engaging solo presentation of traditional and popular American songs from yesteryear. From witty and humorous ditties to songs that explore the depths of the human condition, his singing tells American stories that are hilarious, gritty and true… stories of train wrecks and wrecked marriages, death row convicts and lonesome lovers, heroes, swaggering braggarts, lazy slackers and slapstick fools. Plan to join in on the chorus. His love affair with the concertina goes back thirty years. He often plays at local New York contra dances with a number of bands. He has played extensively for morris and sword teams and also many Playford dances in NYC. "What a refreshing sound!" – Sing out! "Brilliant concertina player" – Vin Garbutt "Technical fireworks… exceptional skills… very exciting playing… he's able to make the anglo-concertina sound like a mouth organ… bending and blurring notes, so that his playing could never be mistaken for that of an English or even Irish player. " – Rod Stradling, Musical Traditions "Jody is an Anglo concertina virtuoso from the USA with a joyful, energetic & distinctive style; he's a master of American contra dance, old-time and music-hall. He's a fine singer. He writes stonkingly good tunes, too." – Lewes Saturday Folk Club |
