Made it out but had to return the same day, Wisconsin was a sheet of fog so they rescheduled my meeting as nothing was in or out ... Holy cow I guess they couldn't see their hand in their face ... melting snow ya know. Buffalo was fine, walls of melting snow but the road crews were amazing. The thruway was clean. Nobody knows how to move tons of snow better than buffalo. Now my basement looks dry still so here's hoping it stays that way. Creeks are at flood stage from the melting snow

I was trapped in a car (with my wife and two friends) in three feet of the stuff once. I've driven through blizzards and lived for 28 years in the Great Lakes region. I've never seen that much snow at damned near sea level (I have in the Rockies, though) and never all at once.

I could complain about the storms that I have seen... barely getting out the back door with my old man lifting me up so I could get on the snowshoes he threw out in order to shovel out the doors and the front window so we could see more than sky BUT that shit in NY is... NASTY!

friends of a co-worker are driving loaders from the Rochester area to Buffalo to help remove snow... and a major road closing for repair has been postphoned because the contractor's equipment is sitting under 7 feet of snow & they can't get it out yet... or move it when they do.

Back in 1994 we got 5-6 feet of snow... it took 3 days for the town to finally clear the road - but it only snowed the one day and then warmed up. Took a week to get the electricity back on, so we melted snow on the propane stove.

Buffalo always seems to get socked... along with Syracuse.... but the NYS Thruway has been closed from Rochester to the Pennsylvania border since Tuesday 3 am. The big trucks are sitting at every shopping plaza waiting for it to reopen... and that includes all the grocery chain delivery ones.

At least they've not lost power that I've heard.

It's always Buffalo, too. I remember the guy who showed the Embassy movies was from Buffalo when the blizzard of '78 hit, and he was SO proud of their amazing number of inches, reminded me of people comparing dicks.

But then in 1980 when I drove from Tufts (Boston-ish) to Oberlin in Ohio, it started snowing when we hit the Buffalo city limits and stopped when we got to the other side (well, it was snowing only over Buffalo as we drove across New York)...

I visited the Canadian Rockies a couple years ago. What a beautiful, yet inhospitable place. Not even Native Americans lived there until certain Plains tribes got horses and were able to drive neighboring tribes into them.

You are dead right about the Banff bone being (ultimately) connected to the Buffalo bone.

The last I looked, they were joined on the continent I referred to, and from where I sit, they are all within a few yards of each other. Ten hours flying west gets you to most of them in my experience, so they must be next door..

Powder. Good powder. Not the mushy wet stuff we get, but powder please. Mind you, in January, we will be in France and their powder is fine, but not a patch on Rockies powder. (Jackson Hole was the best, followed by Sunshine, which is a wee bit further North. Whistler wasn't the best snow I have fallen in but still not bad. We do Banff every three years or so cosy we like it. Apart from a Starbucks in Banff which claims they know we Brits like coffee strong but haven't worked out what strong actually means. An Oirish theme pub there does potato nachos to die for to be fair)

We don't get much snow here but four years ago had a right dump, snowed in for two days, bought a 4x4 to ensure that doesn't happen again and never *^%!ing snowed since...

Keep the snow coming in your continent. Especially in Canada. Alberta to be specific. Banff / Lake Louise to be precise. Keep it that way till I get there in March to be honest. Oh, but some friends live in Canmore so not quite so much snow because their drive is a bit hilly and we are calling on them one the way from Calgary and the rental company had run out of 4x4s the last time....
