Subject: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: Bert Date: 21 Nov 14 - 01:59 PM I've been watching a lot on Netflix lately and it seems that they can't make a move nowadays without scene after scene where you can't see what is going on. There are either just shadows moving or flashlights wiggling about in the dark. Enough already. Us old timers have already lived through that kind of entertainment; we called it RADIO. |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: GUEST,sciencegeek Date: 21 Nov 14 - 02:06 PM LOL... bad enough the poor lighting... but why the heck do they increase the background music during the dialog!?! You can't hear the dang actors for the soundtrack... |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: Mr Red Date: 21 Nov 14 - 02:41 PM That is called watching in a pub. |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: GUEST,CS Date: 21 Nov 14 - 03:26 PM My main annoyance is the blipvert editing of scenes. It's like they expect zero attention span. The speed at which shots move, you're lucky if a scene is composed of shots lasting even two seconds apiece. |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 21 Nov 14 - 10:49 PM I liked your joke about radio, Bert. |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: Bert Date: 21 Nov 14 - 11:44 PM Yeah Sciencegeek, You adjust the sound when the movie starts. And after the credits you can't hear a bloody word of the dialog. Hey that was the truth Leenia :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: JennieG Date: 22 Nov 14 - 06:55 PM Movies seem to have become very noisy......lots of action, special effects and bangs, and not a decent plot in sight. |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: gnu Date: 22 Nov 14 - 07:07 PM I haven't been to a movie theatre in at least ten years... too loud. |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: Bert Date: 22 Nov 14 - 10:45 PM We watch them on Netflix gnu. And you are right they are too loud. It seems that shouting and screaming pass for entertainment these days. |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: Bill D Date: 23 Nov 14 - 11:29 AM ". It seems that shouting and screaming pass for entertainment these days." and car chases with crashes... can't have a movie without car chases. |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: GUEST,cs Date: 23 Nov 14 - 12:39 PM The thing I notice most dominantly in all forms of US entertainment is guns and shootings. Everything has guns and shootings. Or just people pointing guns at each other for entirely random reasons. I know a lot of Americans love their guns, but surely they can't be as omnipresent as US entertainment would suggest? |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: GUEST,Stim Date: 23 Nov 14 - 05:02 PM I kind of sympathize, with the darkness and the loudness. But the business about movies being all car crashes and "not a decent plot in sight" is not true. There are more great movies than ever--independent movies, foreign movies, and multicultural collaborations, and with Netflix and Hulu and Amazon, it is much easier to see tnem than ever-- the thing is that some of you at least, don't know about them because you'd rather complain than spend a little time looking for things that are interesting. It isn't that hard to use Google. |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 23 Nov 14 - 09:26 PM I've been known to turn the English subtitles on when I've had a hard time understanding the dialogue on DVDs. |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: Wesley S Date: 23 Nov 14 - 11:53 PM I'm tired of the strobe lights used during suspenseful scenes in order to increase your heart rate. I'm also really tired of action heroes who calmly walk away from explosions they've just caused. |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: Bert Date: 24 Nov 14 - 02:44 AM ...can't have a movie without car chases... or a roof top chase, Bill. GUEST Stim, you seem to have missed the point about this thread. This thread is about COMPLAINING. If you want a thread about good movies, go start one of your own. |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: GUEST,sciencegeek Date: 24 Nov 14 - 09:18 AM true about using the cc (closed caption)on DVDs to figure out the dialog. as for good movies... Sturgeon's Law that 90% of everything is crap holds true there as well. movieland depends on addicts returning to the theater to watch & watch the same show... that's what is counted as box office earnings. DVDs are the gravy. Better written and made movies that don't attract the addicts will be considered money losers. Of course, they later can become cult classics and be around long after the others hit the 99 cent bin. |
Subject: RE: BS: Movie makers - Enough already From: GUEST,Stim Date: 24 Nov 14 - 10:59 AM Bert, I was complaining about your complaining. |
