Google's Wikipedia extract has this:-

"Clive Palmer (born 13 May 1943 died 23 November 2014) was a British folk musician and banjoist best known as a founding member of the Incredible String ..."

which does not show up in the full entry - maybe there's a time-gap in updating?

By cosmic chance they were playing Music of the Ages in Fopp in MCR on Saturday in between Albion Country Band's I Was a Young Man & a Roger Nicholson piece I didn't recognise (but I recognised as Roger!).

Clive Palmer...Original,Incredible,Famous, well these were just three of the band names he chose. COB Clive's Original Band,The Incredible String Band and the Famous Jug Band. I was only a member of one of these,which was how I came to have such life enhancing relationships with Henry the Jug and Pete Berryman.Clive had been back from France and living in Cornwall for some years,and Gina, Clive's partner phoned Pete last night-Sunday- to tell him of Clive's passing. He apparently only knew about the cancer a couple of months ago but seem to keep it to himself. Close friends didn't know how ill he was.
His life an incredible journey,growing up Norff Landun, sharing a flat in Edinburgh with Robin Williamson,a young West Pilton Bert sleeping on the floor,Clock Repairer,and great banjo player. Not strictly old tyme,frailing or bluegrass but Finger style.As Tarrant Bailey and Lisa Turner would have it "English Style" An almost classical guitar approach,Clifford Essex, B.M.G. and all that. Marvellous I loved it!
I was saying to Pete B. this morning why didn't Clive let you know he was so ill..." Different people have different ways of coping... we have to respect that ".
Even my old kettle is whistling the blues for you.

I am very sorry to hear that. I have his Spirit of Love album and a few years ago I found the cd in a charity shop. Best version of Skranky Black Farmer ever.

Sad news from Cornwall. The Cornishman (UK) newspaper has a good article on Clive and his passing after a long illness. I have added his name to the "In Memoriam" thread. My condolences to all who knew and love him.

Clive Palmer....great bloke. He changed my life, totally inadvertently! In Paris in the autumn of 1961. I had a guitar, had never busked before, and never had a paying gig. I went down to the river on the left bank by the end of the Pont des Arts, I knew it was a good spot because I'd seen people busking there. When I got there he was playing away, with a couple of guys. Nigel Denver maybe, and possibly Alex Campbell? Anyway, there were clearly no pickings there for me, I said hello and was kindly directed over the bridge onto the Ile de la Cite. So I went over, set up rather nervously, and started playing. Got offered a gig with a jazz band straight away. Never looked back. So, thanks again Clive! Beautiful music.RIP

SOME VERY SAD NEWS The musician and songwriter Clive Palmer died at 3pm today at West Cornwall Hospital after a long illness. Although a Londoner he spent most of his life in Cornwall and was a major influence on the local folk scene. During a long career he was a founder member of the Incredible String band and also the Famous Jug Band as well as the Temple Creatures, the Stockroom Five, Rhombus and more recently the Clive Palmer Band. However he will be best remembered for the ground breaking band C.O.B with whom he made two wonderful albums in the 1970s "Spirit of Love" and "Moishe McStiff" . Our sympathies to his wife Gina and family, we were lucky to have him and his music amongst us for so long.....

will be at 2pm on Thursday December 4th
at St Marys Church, Chapel Street, Penzance TR18 4AD This is the large church with a clock at the bottom of Chapel Street on the right, opposite the old Penzance Arts Club. After the service the plan is to go down to the Yacht Inn (about100 yards away) so it may be sensible to park in the car park opposite the Yacht. Please pass this on - all welcome
