HI

I went to Old Trafford on Saturday to watch Man United v Hull City.

As we approached the ground there was a group of people each with a cricket bat with a black bow tied round the handle. Each had RIP PHIL HUGHES on it. I recognised one or two of them as local cricketers and some rugby players too. There is widespread sympathy for Phil - spread across many sports.

In similar vein on Saturday a hockey player Sam Owen was struck on the head by a hockey ball and had to have brain surgery.

Indications are that he is recovering well.

.........and the ex F1 driver Australian Mark Webber was involved in a bad crash over the weekend. Thankfully Mark was not seriously injured but is suffering from concussion and heavy bruising.

Dangerous stuff this sporting life !!!

Makes me realise how lucky I was.

The funeral was held today I would say half of AUSTRALIA watched it was on TV There were 2000 people in the hall even the Indian team were there very sad

An obituary in this morning's The Times of Hillel Oscar, formerly Israel's cricket captain, who had been born in Bombay and emigrated with a love of the game, states that he "was killed in a freak accident when a ball struck him as he umpired a match".

Sad that there should be two cricket fatalities within so short a time.
