Subject: Origins: Send back the little canary

My mother used to sing this. I'm guessing it's an old British music hall song, but I've never seen it anywhere, including here, where every song ever sung must have shown up at one time or another. Any info or ideas?

Send back the little canary
That woke us up every morn
Send back the little white nightie
The nightie that never was worn
Send back the little blue bloomers
You'll find them under the bed
Lovers should send back their presents, I think,
After their romance has fled.

And I'll send back Johnny and Ethel
The only gifts I got from you
Lovers should send back their presents, I think,
When their engagement is through.

Typing this out, I realize that the POV is that of a man, but I only and always associate it with my mother.
