Christmas Truce/Kerstbestand was performed by Coope Boyes & Simpson and Wereldkoor Wak Maar Proper at St-Maartenskerk, Ieper on December 18, 1998. It was one of the Passendale Peace Concerts / Vredesconcerten and included original compositions by Jim Boyes and Lester Simpson.

Coope Boyes and Simpson will return to St-Maartenskerk on 22 December 2014 to perform The Best Christmas Present in the World with Michael Morpurgo. "First someone saw a white flag waving from the trenches opposite. Then they were calling out to us from across no man's land, "Happy Christmas Tommy! Happy Christmas!" When we had got over the surprise some of us shouted back, "Same to you Fritz! Same to you!" "

There will be a showing of the film Joyeux Noel, concerning the Christmas Truce, at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk VA on Dec 4, 2014, with discussion following. I have communicated with the convener to let him know about the McCutcheon song and also the segment in the film Oh, What a Lovely War!

I've friends, a couple, who are going to New York city for a weekend of great musical events. Besides the Paul Winter 35th Annual Winter Solstice Celebration that I try to catch on broadcast every year, they're also going to hear:

Cooper Union 7 East 7th Street New York, New York
Very special concert honoring the 100th anniversary of the 1914 Christmas Eve Truce, the inspiration for the song "Christmas in the Trenches." This will be the *only* northeast event for this centenary involving John McCutcheon.

I'll be home singing and playing and like them to well to be envious, but I'm vastly wistful and wish I could go.The latter concert also makes me wonder about how many songs were written about the Christmas in the Trenches event - I can think of another one that Artisan sang.

Joanne still singing in Cleveland
