Subject: RE: Ormiston Whistles From: GUEST,Dáithí Date: 04 Dec 14 - 03:39 AM Thanks for the info everybody. I do have a Dixon also but haven't found it especially good, especially in sessions - where I just use it to join in more quietly for tunes I'm not confident about blasting out! Paid about £50 for it, but still prefer my Susato which was only 30 odd quid or so. Hmmm...further pondering/reseacrh is the order of the day then, I guess! D |

Subject: RE: Ormiston Whistles From: Jack Campin Date: 03 Dec 14 - 06:49 AM The Ormiston will be listenable in the high register, where the Tony Dixon is unbearably flat. |
Subject: RE: Ormiston Whistles From: Leadfingers Date: 03 Dec 14 - 04:21 AM I honestly don't see the point of paying THAT much for a whistle when Tony Dixon makes perfectly good whistles at a tenth the cost |

Subject: RE: Ormiston Whistles From: Jack Campin Date: 02 Dec 14 - 07:52 PM I think that's a good deal cheaper than a Copeland and the quality is about the same. Ormiston's transverse flutes and flute headjoints are fairly legendary. The Tony Hinnigan site doesn't include an Ormiston among the comparisons. I can't make out anything useful from the videos, he just blasts through a storm of notes very fast with terrible recording quality. |
Subject: RE: Ormiston Whistles From: GUEST,Simon Date: 02 Dec 14 - 10:55 AM They're good no doubt. Go here though http://www.tonyhinnigan.co.uk/moviedl.php?group=29# and make your mind up whether you think £280 is worth it! |
Subject: Ormiston Whistles From: GUEST Date: 02 Dec 14 - 10:48 AM Hi Folks! Came across a whistle made in Scotland by Goerge Ormiston in a session over the weekend - African Blackwood and silver, looked and sounded good. Am thinking it'sa bit pricey at £280. Haven't found many reviews so...anybody here got any experience or views to share please, before I shell out?! Many thanks D |
