Subject: Review: Oxford American Music Issue From: GUEST,Arkie Date: 09 Dec 14 - 06:36 PM The Oxford American Magazine has been publishing a special music issue for about ten years with an accompanying CD. For several years the magazine has focused the music issue on a particular state. This year the honor goes to Texas. I am a bit surprised that there has been no interest in this enterprise expressed on Mudcat. I received my copy last week and have enjoyed the CD as well as the articles on the written page. The magazine has had financial woes and is now located on the campus of the Univ. of Central Arkansas. I have enjoyed the art, the articles, and particularly the music issue since its inception. Even helped a little with the Arkansas music issue some years back. But what do I know. Oxford American Magazine Texas Music Issue |
Subject: RE: Review: Oxford American Music Issue From: Hagman Date: 09 Dec 14 - 09:01 PM You know lots. I too have enjoyed all their issues (four a year) for many years. Lots of stuff on Southern writers, musicians, arts etc... If you subscibe electronically through Zinio it's very cheap - about U$15.00 p.y. - but alas there is no download of the yearly music issue accompanying disc. |

Subject: RE: Review: Oxford American Music Issue From: GUEST,bernieandred Date: 11 Dec 14 - 06:57 PM Thanks for the heads up. I buy the music issue every year. The CD always has very interesting stuff. The written articles in the music issue are particularly good, often about musicians you may never have heard before. Even when writing about well established figures, the writers always manage to bring something fresh and new to the subject. Definitely some of the best music journalism, in one issue of a magazine. |
