The Llantrisant Mari Lwyd will be doing her rounds and making merry on the Sunday before Christmas, December 21.
The Mari's timetable (very approximately) will be:

Meet at 12 noon in The Dynevor Arms, Groes Faen, CF72 8NS;
1pm: The Miskin Arms, Miskin, CF72 8JQ;
1.45pm: The Penny Farthing, Southgate,CF72 8DQ (where the new landlord/lady will welcome us);
2.30pm: Llantrisant Old Town, including The New Inn, CF72 8ED, The Bear, CF72 8DA, a private house, and the Wheatsheaf, CF72 8BQ - just come looking for us!
4.30pm: Cross Inn, in Cross Inn, CF72 8AZ.

Donations and contributions go to the Marie Curie Hospice, Penarth.

Then in the evening (this is an optional trip): The Boar's Head, Tyle Garw, CF72 9EZ - Landlord Wayne Owen's charity do with choirs, real ales and Christmas merriment. The Mari will make an appearance and collect that evening for Wayne's charity.

Details on this venerable tradition can be found here.

Wouldn't it be grand if I could be there and in Dungworth at the same time. Brian Cox was on tv recently talking about parallel universes and how handy it would be if we could travel from one to the other. It would be handy if we could take in multiple parallel calendar customs at the same time.

Sadly Foxen can't make the December 21 ceremony but hope to meet the Llantrisant Mari Lwyd at Chepstow on Saturday January 17 when Widders Border Morris will be hosting a Mari Lwyd. Details at Chepstow Mari Lwyd

When is this happening this year please? I run a local woodcraft play group and the kids would love to join in if that would be ok?

Hi Louisa.

The tour for this year will be mainly around Llantrisant on Sunday 20 December. The route hasn't been finalised yet, but will be posted on the Llantrisant Folk Club Facebook page and Llantrisant Folk Club website nearer the time.

The tour usually starts at the Dynevor Arms, Groes Faen around 12.30 and arrives in the old town about an hour later, working down the hill from the New Inn, going from pub to pub (if they are open). We also like to stop at the bullring and do a circle dance around the Christmas tree at this point, this may be a good opportunity to join in, as the rest of the tour is mainly via pubs, which may not be suitable for your play group.
However, if you contact Pat Smith on pat.spoons (at) virgin.net she may be able to organise something for when you have your usual meeting.

All the best

Splott Man
