Subject: RE: the disappearance of glenn miller From: bubblyrat Date: 22 Dec 14 - 07:28 AM The theory that ,to me anyway, has always seemed most credible / plausible is that Miller's aircraft probably went off course and flew through an area designated for the dumping of bombs from allied bombers that were "hung up" or were still aboard after aborted missions.I believe that such aircraft, and unfortunately Miller's, could easily have been in the "Danger Zone" at the same time. |
Subject: RE: the disappearance of glenn miller From: GUEST,Squeezer Date: 22 Dec 14 - 06:13 PM I'm sure you're right. Many years ago there was a BBC history programme during which an ex-US airman claimed to have witnessed Miller's plane caught at low altitude in a shower of bombs dumped in the English Channel following an aborted mission. The plane he saw was similar to Miller's, and it was on the day he disappeared. |
Subject: RE: the disappearance of glenn miller From: Leadfingers Date: 22 Dec 14 - 08:10 PM The programme debunked that because of the Time factor ! Far more likely is the mechanical temperature induced problems ! The aircraft was flying low altitude and would have been about 8 seconds from Engine stoppage to hitting the water ! |
Subject: RE: the disappearance of glenn miller From: The Sandman Date: 23 Dec 14 - 06:07 AM there is another programme tonight on bbc radio about glenn miller |
Subject: RE: the disappearance of glenn miller From: pdq Date: 23 Dec 14 - 10:19 AM Numerous people have claimed that Hitler despised Glenn Miller, Bing Crosby and all American music. Glenn Miller was German ancestry which galled him even more. The order to shoot down Miller's plane came from the top. It was at least the third attempt that succeeded. |
Subject: RE: the disappearance of glenn miller From: GUEST Date: 23 Dec 14 - 10:23 AM So he didn't die in a Paris brothel as some say? |
Subject: RE: the disappearance of glenn miller From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 23 Dec 14 - 04:27 PM I got to know Glen Millers' brother Herb and his Grandson John. They were fieinds of my parents. I had a long conversation about Glen and Jazz generally with Herb one night, Herb was teaching at that time and stayed with us when he was touring. They both (Herb and John} sincerely believed that Glenn was the vicitm of a financially inspired murder. Obviously I can't go into any more detail, because it is only supposition and the laws of libel and defamation (is that spelt correctly?} apply here as anywhere else. Fascinating subject though |
