Subject: RE: lyr req/ADD: Back to Mississippi (Miss. From: GUEST,cnd 18 Feb 2015 Date: 21 Feb 15 - 02:51 PM As far as info: "Recorded in san Antonio, June 10, 1930. Bo Carter,v/ Lonnie Chatman,vn/ Sam Chatman, v/ Walter Vinson, g" on the first version that popped up on Youtube. Lyrics (and this is by-ear, so it could be wrong) BACK TO MISSISSIPPI Always tell baby when ya man gone, put you down Won't bring no money home and his face is full-a frown You better go back to Mississippi You better go back to Mississippi You better go back to Mississippi A-honey, where the weather ain't cold. I'm gonna tell ya one thing, baby, honey that's so, You can't be up here, my love, stomp on that floor You better go back to Mississippi You better go back to Mississippi You better go back to Mississippi A-honey, where the weather ain't cold Now a nickel's a nickel, a dime's a dime A-woman gets tired-a ??wansin?? so to kill the time And she'll go back to Mississippi She'll go back to Mississippi She'll go back to Mississippi A-Honey, where the weather ain't cold Oh, step on it! Baby I wanna tell you the fact Lord, I knew you better take your money back And go back to Mississippi And go back to Mississippi Better go back to Mississippi A-honey, where the weather ain't cold Now, look-y here, baby, I'm gonna expite you Go on one man, a tab'll never do ya Better go back to Mississippi Better go back to Mississippi You better go back to Mississippi A-honey where the weather ain't cold It take a rockin' chair to rock A rower boy to row A Mississippi train, now, to satisfy the soul And we'll go back to Mississippi We'll go back to Mississippi We'll go back to Mississippi A-honey where the weather ain't cold Well, those are the lyrics, to the best of my abilities. I'm particularyl unsure of stanza 5 (starting with "now a nickel's"), as indicated by the ??? I don't even have a guess for that. I'm also moderately unsure of 10 (starting with "now look-y here") I hope this helps! |
Subject: RE: lyr req/ADD: Back to Mississippi (Miss. From: GUEST,Roger the Skiffler 19 Feb 2015 Date: 21 Feb 15 - 02:52 PM The usual floating verse in blues is "rubber ballto roll" rather than "rower..." Would "wansin" be "waiting"? RtS (But I might be wrong...!) |
Subject: RE: lyr req/ADD: Back to Mississippi (Miss. From: GUEST,cnd 19 Feb 2015 Date: 21 Feb 15 - 02:53 PM I don't know, doesn't sound like waiting, though I considered it. Here's the version I used, and it should be linked to start that verse soon after: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vs_VVHEuodM#t=65 It sounds like it's pronounced phonetically: wænsɪn. If that doesn't come out right, W-ayah (like a baby crying) -n-sin (like the word sin). Waiting would make sense, but it doesn't sound like it. However, upon hearing "rubber ball to roll," I will have to agree with you there. That sounds much better. |
Subject: Lyr Add: BACK TO MISSISSIPPI (Mississippi Sheiks) From: GUEST,19 Feb 2015 Date: 21 Feb 15 - 02:54 PM I hear some different stuff, here's the words I use:
1. Always tell, baby, when your man's gon' put you down |

From: GUEST,Janie (19 Feb 2015) Date: 21 Feb 15 - 02:56 PM Listening to lyrics posted by Guest Those lyrics sound right to me for the most part, listening to the youtube link. Don't know that I'm right, I also hear Woman gets tired of wearing thin clothes up here all the time. Next to last verse, All I hear is Only one man... don't hear another word between Only and one. |
