Date: 16 Feb 15 - 04:30 PM I'm feeling completely knocked back. I keep my song list, including some I've written myself, on an aged Palm Pilot. I set it to recharge the battery, and then, when I started it up again, it had done a hard reset, and was back at factory setting. Nothing, zilch, not a thing on it. Some stuff I have already transferred to my smartphone. Some, but not the most recent addresses, are in my solid hard paper book. Since Windows has been upgraded so many times, and the connections to the thing are alien to modern machines, backing up has been seriously difficult - I don't even know if it would do it on Win 7. I've found a couple of songs on an external hard drive. I know that one of them is on here somewhere, but a couple are just in my head, and I haven't sung them lately. One has partly come back, though not quite as good as it was, so I'll need to tweak it. I'm gutted. Why did it do it? (Rhetorical question.) Subject: RE: Gremlin attack on repertoire! From: Penny S. Date: 16 Feb 15 - 04:55 PM I've found what's on here, song wise, but there was a poem I wrote when my mother died and I can't find it - I know I posted it. And there's another dark one I wrote about torture, which I didn't put on here. I feel awful. The thing has been so reliable and non-windows-ish, that I have completely trusted it for years. Subject: RE: Gremlin attack on repertoire! From: Penny S. Date: 16 Feb 15 - 05:02 PM Found the poem. Subject: RE: Gremlin attack on repertoire! Subject: RE: Tech: Gremlin attack on repertoire! From: Penny S. Date: 24 Feb 15 - 04:01 PM Don't know quite what has been happening here - but I am reconstituting my song book via PagePlus which can export it either as a pdf or in epub format to my NOOK. (Feeling a bit cross about NOOK - I went for that because it didn't have the taxation issue of Amazon, and lo, it bills me from Luxembourg if I buy something.) But it's turning out quite difficult - I sit here thinking "What songs do I know?" and that is obviously not the right thought, because things just don't surface awfully easily. I can go back to my Kathleen Ferrier record, and my copy of Marrow Bones and similar, but some things just don't seem to be on mental recall. Until I prompt them somehow. Gah. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Gremlin attack on repertoire! From: Penny S. Date: 24 Feb 15 - 04:14 PM And in poking around in my personal page to see if what has been happening had affected that, I found a thread in which I had been searching for a missing line from "The Unquiet Grave", and, extraordinarily, I had exactly the same blank during the reconstitution process, which had involved searching for various versions to match what I did recall - Marrowbones is lurking downstairs - since the Digitrad had a couple of other versions. One line escaped recall. "Then I shall lie along with you", if you're curious. |
