Hi Andy. I've only just seen this, so probably won't make it over there as it's a bit last-minute, but you never know...
As you know, I was there a while back as a solo singer, and played et the Lord Conyer's a couple of times with The Wakes back in the '70s.
Always liked the club. Congratulations on 45 years, and hope you make it to 50 - I'll try and get to that one!

Dick,
Many fond memories of you being at Kiveton in the old days. This is when you lived in England rather than over the water. Hope everything is good with you. Regarding your first gig, I'll have to root out the old guest ledger and find the info you want. Also it will tell me the fee you (and other guests) charged at the time. Seems funny that we could get top guests for what now seems a pittance. However we must remember that wages were much lower and club entrance fees were around half a crown at Kiveton (12 and a half pence in new fangled money). Malcolm,
Regarding your first post, I remember you coming to the club when you were working over this way. This was in the Lord Conyers days. A couple of years ago I was reminiscing with another member about old times and mentioned your good self. This guy said 'Oh yes I remember him, came from the East coast area and did a great version of The Light Dragoon' So you're remembered for your performance as well as your stunning good looks. K.P has always been one of my favourite clubs. I sang there many times, right from the earliest days. I was running a club in Nottingham at the time and some of the K P lads used to come over, a grand bunch, and dead keen on the music. I'm not surprised the club has lasted so long. Congrats, and best wishes for many more. Although I live in Wales, alas it's not the Wales in Yorkshire. My Wales is too far away for me to get there, but I'll be thinking of you. Early '80s it was Worksop on the Sunday, Barnsley on the Monday and Kiveton on the Tuesday.

I was fortunate enough to catch up with Wellsie not long before he passed away. He came to a 'do Mitch and Marylin had in Worksop.

I have good memories of catching the train from Worksop, missing the last one home and walking down the canal c/w guitar in the middle of the night, trying to memorise a tune Ernie Sissons had played or a song Dave Oldroyd had sung. Whilst a traditional club, they always forgave me for reciting Monty Python poems......

I won't make it sadly, as Tuesdays are generally busy elsewhere but I do intend to pop over and meet old friends again, and although I am now fifty miles away, it isn't too far really..

I was a fairly regular attendee in the late 1970s when working in the area.

Always a cracking night and a great bunch of people.

Somewhere I have a cassette recording of Nic Jones at the club that I can't find at the moment but it may well be that I wore it out!

Sorry but I will not be at the Paddy's night do, unfortunately a previous engagement down south gets in the way.

and thankyou for booking me so many times, i think i have played in 4 differnt venues, can you tell me how many times i played there and when the first gig was, i am guessing it was 1979?

Most South Yorkshire folkies probably know that Kiveton Park Folk Club has been operating for a considerable time. Well, this coming Tuesday 17th March, we will be celebrating our 45th year. That's 45 years as a weekly club. A bit like the Windmill Theatre, we never closed. However, being honest, that has actually happened but on only 3 Tuesday nights in all that time.
May I offer my thanks to all present and past members and guests. We couldn't have survived all that time without your unwavering support.
On the 17th a cordial welcome will be extended to any old Kivvo mates who wish to drop by and renew old acquaintances. Look forward to seeing a few old faces.
