Art Thieme - April 2015 Update

Unless I've overlooked one I don't seem to have seen a posting from Art Thieme on here for some time, and it has me worried. How are things Art? Are you okay?.

Art last posted in 2013. His son (Elijah Browning) also last posted in 2013, & someone will be able to contact him.

He & Carol are living in supported accommodation.

He posted as a guest a few times, the last in the Mudcat Friendships thread.

Sandy Paton was his friend, and Sandy died.    Katlaughing used to call him, and she died. I think Catspaw used to call him, and he died. Mick might call him, but he's not around much. I'd guess most people and things Art came here for aren't around any more.

I don't know how to get in touch with Art or his son, and I don't know who would. Maybe Harpgirl? (But she hasn't been around either.) I know I'm not a fat lot of help.

Ok, here's what I found:

Carol tells me they are "Fine, ok." Speech is slow but her mind was clicking away. She asked if I'd like to speak with Art- and of course I was glad to.

Art tells me he is mostly immobile these days, needing to be in his wheelchair or lying down. (-easy to understand why posting here is problematic.) He tells me he and Carol are doing ok, keeping their spirits up. He's listening to a lot of music these days- most recently music from Jim Watson of the Red Clay Ramblers

I brought him up to date with some of the shenanigans of his old friend Gordon. I told him Mudcatters send love to both of them. We said our goodbyes then, because health aides had arrived to help him dress. I'll call again, with their blessing. I'm sure they'd love to get letters, maybe music cds too. Send me a PM if you don't know how to find their mailing address on Mudcat.

Well done Maeve, the update was a good idea. Next time you speak to Art would you please tell him that Roy and Elaine send their best wishes. We think of him, and play his CDs often. Thank you, Roy Harris.

Apart from being a fine musician and entertainer, he was one of the few Catters whose posts I'd stop and read no matter what topic and the posts were always worth it. He also helped me find a rare recording I had not known existed of a friend who had passed on, so he was there to help when asked. I hope he is feeling the best he can and enjoying life as well as possible.

Dear friends of Art- I just called Art and Carol and had a brief chat. Carol and her brother had just been to see their mother one last time (her mother is 92 and failing fast), and Art was still confined to bed. Carol and Art retain their sense of humor and Art says "Living without a sense of humor isn't funny!" (I laughed on cue.) They would benefit from any laughter-inducing cds you care to send- very healing.

They were given a Bose stereo system so are enjoying their music often, including Will's cd sent recently. If anyone else has sent something and are unsure whether it arrived, let me know as I'd be glad to check for you next time I call. I was sleepy when I called this time, and forgot to pass along Roy's and Elaine's regards, but will do better next time.

I almost missed this thread about Art....I will never forget his kindness to give some of his cd's as a gift to me some years ago. I'm really glad that he is relatively well-off although I'm missing his fair style of discussion here...Tonight I am going to listen to his wonderful songs again and again...
