Hi everyone. I am a big Tony Rose fan. I think that he was one of the finest singers of traditional folk songs ever. Imagine then, my delight to discover a load of apparently hitherto unknown Tony Rose recordings.

Trouble is, excellent as they are ... they don't sound anything like Tony Rose. I am intrigued to know more about them though. can anybody help?

Just visited the website because I am a big Tony Rose fan also. But this is definitely not the Tony Rose I know. A while ago I found a live recording by Tony Rose in the internet but I found out it was an American singer. So there are more Tony Roses than the one we like.

That's a matter of opinion and taste. Not my cup of tea at all.

There I agree absolutely. And not songs that I can imagine him having ever sung.

Whoever put those tracks there seems to have been playing silly buggers.

I nearly bought the CD with these songs from Amazon years ago. Luckily I noticed in time that it was another Tony Rose.

Similarly confusing is the case of the UK singer Emily Portman and the US singer Emily Portman...

It doesn't look deliberate to me. Yes, whoever uploaded them must have cloth ears, as the singer clearly has an American accent. But it doesn't look to me like they are setting out to maliciously mislead anyone - it looks like, amazingly, they genuinely believe that that is the british Tony Rose singing.

To be honest, I felt more misled by the title of this thread. I was expecting to read a review of some newly discovered Tony Rose songs. Gutted.

Hi everyone - thanks for the replies. It seems beyond dispute that they aren't by THE Tony Rose that we all know & love. What intrigued me though is that the Channel itself "FolkSongUK" has a series of Nic Jones recordings (from Knaresborough Folk Club) & the wonderful Bandoggs album (which of course, is Tony Rose & Nic Jones & Pete & Chris Coe) & then these mysterious recordings. From his description (& the pic) it's quite clear that the person who posted is describing THE Tony Rose & yet the recordings don't sound anything like him but this is the poster's desription : "TONY ROSE
A beautifully relaxed interpreter of traditional song, with rare warmth and intimacy, Tony Rose made an indelible mark on the British folk scene. He was wholly committed to the grass roots scene, eschewing the seemingly sexier terrain of folk rock bands, modern song and political material that seduced so many of his contemporaries.
Tony passed away in June 2002 shortly after he had begun to re-record some of his early songs."

Well, I know ( & own a copy) of Tony's Bare Bones CD where he does indeed re-record some of his earlier songs, but that was released in 1999 - sometime before 2002 & it is the last sentence that intrigued me. Regardless though I do like the recordings themselves (particularly Isles of Green) & so was intrigued to find out who had actually made them & why the confusion. Having searched on Google etc I can find no reference to an album called "Many Hands" let alone one by TR - except where these recordings have been re-referenced.

Finally- to whoever posted the "Just As The Tide Was Flowing" link. Probably my favourite version ever of this great song. Likewise "Searching For Lambs" which is also available via YT.

Hello, I just found this thread and I can shine a light on it for you as I wrote songs for and played on this album. The artist Tony Rose is Australian born, I grew up playing music with his sons and daughter, we all wrote and sang together. Somehow this album has been wrongly attributed to the UK born and much celebrated folk singer Tony Rose. I was contacted a number of years ago to clarify this, I have no idea who uploaded these
