Subject: RE: Obit: Stan Freberg (1926-2015) From: CupOfTea Date: 08 Apr 15 - 10:02 AM Stan Freberg was such a potent antidote to the mainstream slapstick humor so popular when I was a kid. That you could be smart, and wickedly funny, without being vicious, and put concepts together that had you thinking while you were laughing helped form my taste for humor. I wasn't as aware of his influence in advertising, but it's gratifying to know that such a witty wonderful man had also been of significant influence there as well. Joanne in Cleveland (Where WCLV was my main source of Freberg) |

Subject: RE: Obit: Stan Freberg (1926-2015) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 08 Apr 15 - 01:07 AM NPR blog "Stan Freberg, A Genius Of American Advertising, Dies". From the Arts section of the New York Times: Stan Freberg, Madcap Adman and Satirist, Dies at 88. He and my mother were friends in California during WWII, a particularly difficult time for a lot of people. She was a psychiatric social worker at a military hospital when they met. SRS |

Subject: RE: Obit: Stan Freberg (1926-2015) From: GUEST Date: 08 Apr 15 - 12:00 AM Mr. Freberg was a very clever satirist who, for reasons unknown (at least to me) eventually based pretty much his entire act on the premise that television and rock music were both just passing fads. Mort Sahl went nuts in his later years too. |
