Subject: RE: Ritchie Benault RIP From: GUEST,MikeL2 Date: 10 Apr 15 - 11:34 AM Hi Sad News for a great cricketer and Ambassador for the game. I saw Richie play several times and he usually contributed significantly. I saw him at Old Trafford in 1956 in " The Jim Laker " Test. Richie always respected how great Jim was and often made references to it. Richie was a gracious man and a thinker about the game. He became one of the World's great commentators. For me the second most evocative to John Arlot. RIP Richie. My condolences to family and friends. MikeL2 |

Subject: RE: Richie Benaud RIP, a great man of cricket From: Musket Date: 11 Apr 15 - 09:26 AM Too young to have known him as a player but as a commentator, forms part of what I recognise as my love of the sport. Very sad indeed. |
Subject: RE: Richie Benaud RIP, a great man of cricket From: Teribus Date: 12 Apr 15 - 06:46 AM Vaguely remember seeing him as a player, I remember him more though as a commentator, along with Brian Johnston and John Arlott they were in a class of their own and now that Richie has passed it really is the end of an era. But with Benaud in particular his response to Sky's job offers and his family's refusal to accept the offer of a state funeral speak volumes towards the humility, integrity and honesty of the man and the family. What ever job he took on in life he did astoundingly well, seeking no adulation, or personal glory - Rest In Peace. |
