I assume that you mean this?

Train - Hey, Soul Sister

Not to my taste whatsoever. Really dislike it, if I'm honest. But each to their own...

I LIKE TRAINS

Strangely enough, Fred will not catch a glimpse of the caboose any more. They've been replaced by F.R.E.D.s (Flashing rear end devices)

I love trains. Been one end of the country to the other by train. Loved it. Never been on the Newfoundland Railway though. It operated from 1898 to 1988 when it was shut down. It was 900 miles of track from St John's to Port aux Basque. It had a reputation for being very slow and often undependable.

Story goes that a lady approached a conductor and asked, "When will we be getting in to St John's?" He replied, "Pretty soon now. We are sorry about the delay." She said, "Well, I'm a little concerned because as you can see I'm pregnant." He went on to remark, "Well, you should know better than to get on this train when you're pregnant." She said, "I didn't!"

Good one GUEST,#. I hitch-hiked to St.John's in 1967 and recall seeing them lifting RR cars off the ferry in Port Aux Basque and setting them on narrow guage trucks. There are still a few cars, a snow plow and an engine at the old RR station in Port Aux Basque. I recall hearing that if you got your moose, and you could get it as far as the railway tracks, the train would stop and load it on for you.
The train had the nick-name "Newfie Bullet".

I saw them around twelve years ago at the Florida Springfest, a now defunct multi-stage festival held in downtown Pensacola. The folks who ran the festival decided to try having an arts and crafts fair as well as the music, so we were there attempting to sell pottery. The less said about that, the better. One of the main outdoor stages was right across from the crafts area, and Train was one of the acts who played there. Not exactly my cup of tea, but better than anyone else who played that stage that weekend. Ironically, the stage was set up near a railroad track and a freight train, whistle and all, came by right in the middle of Train's opening number. As loud as the band was, the train whistle was louder. So, they stopped mid-song, watched the train roll by, and started over.

Not my cup of tea either but I am well impressed (is that what they say?) that someone calling themselves olddude enjoys them.

I think you should post a link to a photo of yourselves at the concert.
:-)

Thanks, PHJim. That's the nickname I was trying to remember:-)

I figureany group that can get a hit song using a ukulele deserves some respect. I don't think the lyrics are as good as they could be but I do the music and melody.

I have to laugh. When I first saw the post, I thought it was a post about actual trains - what do I know. :-)
Anyway, I realized it was a post about a band after reading through the posts. I went to have a listen to this band that I was not familiar with at all from Guest Ed's post with the link.

Listened to the entire song - and did not care for this band's music at all. Not to say they aren't talented or anything - but just not my cup of tea.
I guess they must be other's cup of tea but I did not like their music.

I like all kinds of music. I may only write and perform folk and blues, but all kinds of new music is cool with me

Subject: ADDPOP: Hey Soul Sister (Patrick Monahank)
From: Joe Offer
Date: 19 Apr 15 - 01:02 AM

Wikipedia says the American pop-rock band Train has been around since 1993. Their big hit was "Hey Soul Sister," released in 2009. They also had a hit with "Calling All Angels."

I have to confess that I kinda like both songs, so I'm with olddude on this.

I suppose I've ruined whatever is left of my folk music reputation by working on the upcoming Rise Again Songbook, but I like a wide variety of music and have never been much of a folkie purist. I find Train's recordings to be very entertaining, fun songs. I think it's worth your time to take a listen to them and watch some of their clever music videos.

"Hey, Soul Sister," by the way, will be in the Millennials chapter of the Rise Again Songbook. I think I first heard the song on Glee.

Hey, Soul Sister
(Patrick Monahank)

Your lipstick stains on the front lobe of my left side brains
I knew I wouldn't forget you & so I went & let you blow my mind
Your sweet moonbeam, the smell of you in every single dream, I dream
I knew when we collided, you're the one I have decided who's one of my kind
(up 4) C G Am F / C G Am FG ://
Hey soul sister, ain't that Mr. Mister on the radio, stereo, the way you move ain't fair, you know
Hey soul sister, I don't want to miss a single thing you do
Tonight
F GC F GC / F GC F G / C (G Am FG)
Just in time, I'm so glad you have a one-track mind like me
You gave my life direction, a game show love connection we can't deny
I'm so obsessed, my heart is bound to beat right out my untrimmed chest
I believe in you, like a virgin, you're Madonna
And I'm always gonna wanna blow your mind

The way you can cut a rug, watching you's the only drug I need
So gangsta, I'm so thug, you're the only one I'm dreaming of
You see, I can be myself now finally, in fact there's nothing I can't be
I want the world to see you'll be, with me

Patrick Monahan (of Train), Espen Lind & Amund Bjørklund
On Train Save Me, San Francisco. Featured during the second season of Glee (up 2).

Put me on the list of people who like Train, although Soul Sister isn't my favorite of the band's songs.

When their first CD came out, I asked my son and then-daughter-in-law for it as a Christmas gift. She knew I was a folk music fan and said she didn't think I would like Train's music. I asked her why I would ask for it for a gift if I didn't think I'd like it! They gave me the CD and I still like it.

Heck, I thought this thread was going to be about watching the railroads.

About the band 'Train,' it gives me a sore throat just to listen to the lead singer's forced vocals. Sorry, Dan.

Catchy pop song tune, weird lyrics. Inoffensive but wouldn't pay to see them or buy the track.
Interesting that YouTube seems to think I would need/want to listen to Mumford and Son next - another pop- folk? Band.
