Subject: The Real MacColl - BBC Radio From: Rain Dog Date: 20 Apr 15 - 04:28 AM BBC Radio 2 are repeating the Ewan MacColl documentary that was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in January this year BBC Radio 2 22.00 hours Wednesday 22.4.15 It is still available on the BBC iplayer now The Real MacColl It follows coverage of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, which starts at 19.30 on Wednesday 22.4.15, and MacColl will be inducted into the Folk Awards Hall of Fame Radio 2 Folk Awards 2015 Hosts Mark Radcliffe and Julie Fowlis will introduce performances by artists including Yusuf / Cat Stevens, Loudon Wainwright III, Kate Rusby and 9Bach. There will also be special performances in tribute to Ewan MacColl and the late Meredydd Evans. Ewan MacColl will be inducted into the Folk Awards Hall of Fame in this, his centenary year. Born in Salford in 1915 to Scottish parents, he would go on to be one of Britain's greatest ever songwriters. His pioneering and idealistic work in folk music, theatre and radio made him a hugely influential character in his lifetime and beyond it. Dr. Meredydd Evans passed away in February 2015 at the age of 95. His wide-ranging contributions as a singer, historian, broadcaster and Welsh language campaigner made him a significant, respected and popular figure across Welsh culture. He will be posthumously honoured with the Good Tradition Award. |
