Nothing on at Nellies, Monks Walk or Oddfellows this year? No Big Mick, Sir Rog, Banjo John or Young Roy et al,as in years gone by?

There's been nothing on at Nellie's for years, on account of being a Sam Smith's pub that doesn't allow music. Oddfellows is no longer a pub. Monks Walk is a possibility as it has recently changed hands. I believe it was shut for a while. Sir Roger has moved from Beverley, sends his regards but is otherwise engaged. If by Big Mick you mean the illustrious Mr McGarry, his band are playing at the official site. Did you have a nice sleep?

You beat me to it Les. I was going to post pretty much the same thing.

In fact, I get back from the States on the 16th of June so may get across for one or two of the sessions if I'm not too jetlagged.

R

Things have surely changed a heck of a lot since I last graced Beverley with my presence! I shall hook up the Ole Caravan and hope that this Southern Man ( and his trusty fiddle ) will receive a warm welcome up there.

This post is a response to a post on Hull 2015 which is worth repeating here.

We (Alterego) have been coming to Beverley fringe for many years and have only graced the main festival once. This year we volunteered to run a session. Sorry if the 'new broom' idea is upsetting people but as I understand it we are the only fringe session runners who haven't been doing it for years! We will be joining in the other sessions as usual and look forward to seeing Maggie & Les, and all the others again (even the ones who won't remember us). Without wishing to upset anyone we have been involved in various folk organisations and clubs for years and for at least the last 15 years, along with many others, have been very concerned that there are no younger people (and we are not young) coming forward to take over these things as time marches on, and the stalwarts start to drop off. That's why things eventually don't happen any more.

The singarounds that Maggie and I are running on Friday and Sunday evenings will now be in Monks Walk rather than Hodgsons. So that means that all the evening singarounds will be there.

The Friday and Sunday evening singarounds at Monks Walk will be in the room across the passageway. I'm sure you'll find it. It the room where the singing is coming from (from whence the singing is coming?).
