This is a recording W.C. Handy made of "Joe Turner" in 1938 singing and playing guitar. Notice that he uses the same refrain in both stanzas. Using a refrain in the third line was a very popular approach in black 12-bar songs during about 1895-1910 ("Railroad Bill" etc.).
