All sensible suggestions gratefully accepted Our lovely local diarist is getting far too busy to chase folks for their listing info, so lets try and make it easy for them to D I Y |
Subject: RE: Software for Folk Club Listings WANTED From: GUEST,JeremyRS Date: 30 Apr 15 - 07:52 AM I'm assuming you want something for internal use rather then the public. If so, a venue I work with uses a Yahoo email account. All the promoters have the password and they use the calendar to add their events. It's not particularly sophisticated, but it is free and there's enough space to add things like prices and timings as well as performers and probably other stuff too. |
Subject: RE: Software for Folk Club Listings WANTED From: WindhoverWeaver Date: 30 Apr 15 - 07:55 AM Nic, it is unclear to me what exactly you are asking for. Do you mean a web-based program that allows you to post to a specified website? Or something that will allow a calendar of events to be printed? If the former, are you looking for a website that will host listings, or do you have one and need to add the functionality? Is so, you will need to tell us what the website is running on and what languages it accepts programming in. I have written applications before that post up-coming events/notices dynamically where the events/notices are entered by a simple web form. Is that the sort of thing you want? |
Subject: RE: Software for Folk Club Listings WANTED From: GUEST,Peter Date: 30 Apr 15 - 08:08 AM If people need chasing then to send you and email then they will need just as much chasing to make them use a web based system. It has been proved time and again that web based input isn't a "silver bullet" to remove the admin overhead in running any sort of listing or directory. |
Subject: RE: Software for Folk Club Listings WANTED From: GUEST,OldNicKilby Date: 01 May 15 - 06:02 AM What we are looking for is some Software that will enable Organizers or even the dis-organized to list their events simply. So simple that even the Luddites can do it. . Thus creating a Local Folk Listings and Events Diary. At the moment the Diary is run by a lovely lass who is fed up with having to chase people for their listings. I want it to be run by the wonderful Folkies that keep our music going. If they don't list the events then it is their problem if the end up with empty seats |
Subject: RE: Software for Folk Club Listings WANTED From: Jack Campin Date: 01 May 15 - 06:34 AM I tried googling for "google calendar folk events" and found this: http://bristolwebfolk.github.io/calendar/ which is about web programming activities, not folk music, but seems to do what you want. Very easy to use - I could just click on their button and the calender loaded in iCal for me. I assume you can add stuff to it as easily as with any other Google or Apple calendar sofware. |
Subject: RE: Software for Folk Club Listings WANTED From: WindhoverWeaver Date: 01 May 15 - 06:35 AM I would suggest that the simplest solution is to start a Facebook group page and let everyone subscribe and post to that. (Other social media sites are available). It is simple, most people are at least somewhat familiar with it already, and you can remove any inappropriate posts easily. Why re-invent the wheel? |
Subject: RE: Software for Folk Club Listings WANTED From: FreddyHeadey Date: 01 May 15 - 02:59 PM Would you be able to do it as a google map? Set up one layer per date. There is a good one for clubs folkmusicmap but suggestions/edits have to be submitted to the webmaster. A local one might be easier to moderate but allow more access to? I didn't work out how to limit the 'permissions' beyond all/just you but I was just messing about here test map test map test map I presume you should be able to have it set so that anyone can view it but only nominated club sec's can edit it. If that's possible then you can decide what area you can cope with. I think I left it editable by all. Might be worth someone with a google account checking ? (But I'm not a techy.) |
