Subject: RE: Ramblin' Jack Elliott recordings From: pdq Date: 09 May 15 - 02:49 PM "Cigarettes and whiskey..." is an original Sons of the Pioneers Song written by Tim Spencer. Not sure who sings it on their version. |
Subject: RE: Ramblin' Jack Elliott recordings From: MGM·Lion Date: 09 May 15 - 03:10 PM I recall a memorable recording of Cigareets & Whisky by Red Ingle & His Swampheads, an offshoot IIRC of Spike Jones & His City Slickers. & a fair version by Peter Sellers and the Muppets and a big bass drum is on YouTube. ≈M≈ I wanna hear Temptation - ya hear - that's what I wanna hear - Temptation |
Subject: RE: Ramblin' Jack Elliott recordings From: GUEST,Hootenanny Date: 09 May 15 - 04:46 PM Surely it was Red Ingle and the Un-Natural Seven with Cinderella G Stump or am I confusing it with "Seratun Yob". OK show then us your muscles. (How many people know the in-joke according to Tom Paley)? |

Subject: RE: Ramblin' Jack Elliott recordings From: GUEST,PHJim Date: 22 Mar 24 - 07:05 AM Ramblin' Jack did my favourite version of Don't Think Twice. His first LP had Ian & Sylvia and John Herald guesting with no liner credits. Shel Silverstein wrote the liner notes which are worth the price of the LP. I love the recordings of Ramblin' Jack, but the worst live performance I've ever seen was by Ramblin' Jack at the Freetimes Cafe in Toronto. Jack was drunk and forgetting the words and "rambling" on and on about nonsense. I still love those records and they still spend a lotta time on the turntable. |
