Subject: RE: Belafonte/Makeba From: BigDaddy Date: 10 May 15 - 12:22 AM I received this album as a Christmas present from my parents in 1965 or 1966. It changed my life. I played it so many times I can still sing the songs in the dialects used on the album. And I don't even speak Swahili! I used the LP as a teaching tool when I did a report on Apartheid for my 12th grade African Studies class. I was happy to be able to replace my tired old LP with a CD a few years ago. Love this album still! |
Subject: RE: Belafonte/Makeba From: PHJim Date: 09 May 15 - 04:36 PM I bought tickets for Harry Belafonte at the O'Keefe Centre in Toronto when I was in high school in the sixties. I was supposed to take my girl friend, but she got sick, so I took my mom. Miriam Makeba was the featured guest and we loved her. Nice to hear them again. |
