Ill share a little wooden boat story with you for your Birthday. I was an Irish currach builder, (ancient Irish ocean pulling and sailing boats) and at one point had the largest collection of Irish currachs in the US. One of them, a connemara currach, was carvel planked, and as you may know, carvel planking takes a lot more work than lapstrake, and they still leak like - well plug in your favorite comparison. One spring day, I was over at some chandlers on City Island, NY, buying another calking iron, cotton, tar, paint, bottom paint and some other items of the varrious crap with our vehicals and houses get lousy with. The vendor looked at the calouses on my hands, the tar burns on my arms, the pile of stuff reflecting many hours of work to come, and he shook his head and said, Jeez, they call it pleasure boating!
