There's a really great piece of advice at

And I forgot about that truncated thing and didn't keep the extra to post on a couple I was restoring. But at least we got part of it.

I tell you folks, Bill's "F5" fix works almost every time (except for things that are blocked like certain HTML tags and multiple links from Guests).

Smaller messages aren't really necessary. There is a limit on the size of a message, but the maximum message covers several screens. If a message is too big, Mudcat truncates it. The solution is to pick up where Mudcat cut your message off, and paste another segment into the message box. I had to do this when I was re-posting threads that were lost in our January crash.

I too have suffered the frustration of spending a long time on a post , and it not taking. Like Steve, I now try to post in smaller segments.

Thank you, Joe, for remembering my fix! I **think** that "reload" (not Mudcat's 'refresh') will solve the problem.... that being said, I occasionally forget my own advice.

If I have a lengthy posting I tend to split it up. Sometimes I've tried 20 or more times to make a posting and had to give up in the end. But it doesn't happen that often and I appreciate what is done to make this forum work at all.

A couple of times I have thought "I am sure I posted something on that thread". I am glad to know that it is a Mudcat issue and not dementia setting in.

It was a problem with PMs, Joe, but you are right. Signed back in now and if I get the same issue I will get in touch about blocking them or sorting it another way. Thanks for the info on multiple links. Max needs to know it can be got round though!

Gargoyle - I know you mean well but it is not an obsession. It is a political discussion and, as the son of an immigrant, I feel I have every right to challenge attacks on the immigrant community. If you do not believe it is so please take it elsewhere.

Cheers

Hi, Dave - now that gargoyle pointed it out, I see that your message had multiple links. Guests are allowed only one link per post, but apparently somehow you got through. If you're posting that often, why aren't you logged in?

Dear Dave T.G.

You posted one less than a dozen times to the thread you are obsessed with.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

I like this "firewall."

Lots of the vitrol .... I might normally spew....is reviewed a second time. I then "think twice" and then don't post the "nasty thing."

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

If you are a GUEST .... remove the "http" portion of your address to your sharing link.
World Wide Web aka WWW....will give enough for most of us.

Bill D's discovery seems to be the most valid that I've come across. His theory is that messages don't "take" if they're posted on threads that have been reloaded from your computer's cache (i.e., most threads you've looked at twice). I try to remember to Highlight [CTRL-A] and Copy [CTRL-C] my longer posts to the clipboard on my computer before I hit the "submit" button - and then I check to make sure my message "took." If it didn't, I reload the page using my f5 key on my keyboard, or the circular-arrow "reload" link on my browser. Then I Paste [CTRL-V] the text into the message box, and Submit. Works every time - except when I forget and copy something else in between. Then I'm screwed.

There are some HTML tags that are blocked in all messages, and certain others that are unavailable to Guests (most notably, multiple links). This is done to prevent the posting of Spam or bad code.

I am fairly sure that the anonymous guest of 15 May 15 - 02:25 PM got it right. I did not try the trick with the empty "From:" field, but I would by no means be surprised if it turned out to work. My own workaround, if necessary, is to start a fresh posting after every other link.

The Mudcat script has its mysteries, probably even for Max who consistently refuses to fix a iota. Never change a running sysysysysysysysysysysysysysysys...

The links aren't the problem, but the rule of thumb is to select and copy the post before hitting "submit message." Sometimes you can use the back arrow to retrieve the post, but another rule of thumb seems to be that the more work you put into the post, the less likely that is to work. :-/

Copy the post and open the thread in a completely new window, don't try to resubmit in the same window. It usually works from a new window or tab and you can paste what you saved into the dialog box.

If you use Firefox or Chrome the 'Lazarus' addon/extension will save what you type so you can recover it. Also 'TextArea Cache' for Firefox which is simpler.

I, too, have lost a number of posts when they didn't take (been happening a lot lately--slo-o-o-ow in general of late), so I have been doing what Stanron does--write my posts in Word first, then copy to the message box. If it vaporizes, I've still got it and can try again.

I have a rather slow connection and sometimes when mudcat itself is slow I hit the Submit Message button and forget to wait for the page to finish loading, navigate away too soon and the message gets lost. I usually write my posts in a text editor first and then copy and paste it into the box so when a message gets lost I can just copy it in again.

As it was explained to me, if you or anyone who is not logged in under a member name--not Guest, anything name--posts that contain more than one hotlink will very very seldom take. I think the reason is that it prevents spammers from doing their thing.

I tried, about 6 times, to make a post to the 'New Labour' thread using my Guest handle. I tried from work, using Firefox and Chrome. I tried from home, using the same and IE. No go. I could post to other threads. I then posted using no handle and it took! Next time I posted using my handle again and it took. WTF is going on? :-(
