Subject: Folklore: Help needed - info on band
From: GUEST,Charles Bean
Date: 16 May 15 - 01:53 PM

Hi,

I was hoping that someone could give me some help about a folk band from England (I think).

I bought a live recording of a band called The Topce at a record fair a few years back. I heard them name checked on a radio station and thought they sounded interesting.

The live recording is great – but I'd like to find out more.

I am not that great on computers so there's probably loads of stuff out there but my son sent a link to a UTube of theirs on the World Wide Web.

Here's where you find it ON-LINE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T02utNdBpFo

I've typed that out so I hope there isn't any mistakes in it (if there are, please accept my sincere apologies - it's hard finding all the symbols on my key board).

So please if you have any info about them I'd love to hear - what theyn did, what they recorded etc, if you saw them play?

And thanks for listening to me.

If the owners are unhappy about this plase delete my email immediately. I'd hate to cause any problems for anyone and I am asking elsewhere too so no problem

Thank you to you both.

Thanks to the chap who re-emailed the video I meant to put up. I knew that I'd make a mistake with it. Thanks.

Also, that live gig is great and I've never seen or heard that before. Not that clued up on how to find things ONLINE so thank you so much.

The live gig has some of the songs from the live album I have too (The Topce: Live From A Perished Sign)- you probably know it.

Do you, or anyone else, have any more information? Any videos or anything really

CB
If you go to their YouTube page here
https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCjliUoFqYk98xCb2xXpnOgg
(You might need to create a YouTube account but I don't remember that being overly complicated)...
there are two things you could do, if you haven't already...
click the red "subscribe" button on the left -I think that means you might get notifications if they post more videos.
and
if your display is the same as mine -click the arrow on the right hand side, click discussion, type in a question
then sit back and see if they notice it.

Freddy, you're a gentleman!

I really appreciate you sharing your collection. I will definitely subscribe to it. I will post my questions to your page, as you kindly allow, when I get my subscription finalised.

But, in the mean time, if I may beg your pardon, but could you be kind enough tell me more about this band?

Thank you

Sorry Freddy, meant also to say your collection is most interesting.

I'll give it my full viewing over the remainder of the evening.

Thanks again

Sorry, no, I've got nothing to do with the band, that's just a link to the page where someone (probably not from the band, guessing) has loaded some videos.
In case you don't find that right hand arrow, there is also an 'about' section but it just says
"A great lost folk band from the late 70's to mid eighties. Trying to share some of their stuff on the web." But there is no other contact info.

To save you messing with a YouTube account
I've put a link on their 'discussion' page so if anyone spots it they might come over here.

Hopefully we'll get word from them tonight.

Directly.

Freddy,

Any news yet old bean?

I did have a social engagement planned for later but I've cancelled in case they get in touch.

I don't suppose there is any chance you could drop them a bell, use your influence, to speed things up?

In gratitude.

Charles

I wouldn't hold your breath, CB, they may not see the message straight away.

I have asked an admin. to add the band's name to this thread title which may attract attention from someone who knows more.

I've never heard of them myself.

I have had no luck finding anything on the Heart/Hart/Harp String Band/Stringband or any possible variant spellings that was mentioned early in one of the videos.

Thank you so much for this Freddy – you really are a kind soul.

Thanks for speaking to their admin for me and I appreciate you asking them to add my name to attract their attention – although I agree with you, I doubt they will have heard of me, it has to be worth a try.

In view of this I've now sent them my telephone number in hope that we can establish a quick and direct communication.

If you happen to speak to their admin again, I'd be most indebted if you could chase this up and please reassure them that I'd bear the brunt of any communication costs.

Tell them from me, if they one bell me, I'll bell them straight back.

Thanks again Freddy!

Freddy,

Sorry to appear importune, did you get chance to speak to admin again about your plan?

I've been reading the UTube forum and there are a few folk with a few crumbs of information. I might try emailing them.

Also, I've only just realised that some other kind folk on here have also been helping. So, kind regards and best ones to Noreen and GUEST.

God bless you all.

Have you heard anything?

Charles Bean,

I have no idea as to who you are, or the purpose of your charade, but the fact that you go from:

I am not that great on computers...it's hard finding all the symbols on my key board

to

I might try emailing them.

within 24 hours, suggests taking the piss. Do what you will, but remember that it's a little mean to waste other people's time, however amusing you may find it.

Freddy,

I'm sorry if I offended you.

My intentions here were purely cerebral: motivated by a desire to find out more about a folk band. And, within you, I thought (and still think) I had found someone, so far, with an unrivalled acumen in these regards.

You are correct in stating that I'm unfamiliar with all of symbols on the key board and finding them takes me an age. You are also correct in stating that I know how to email.

However, I fail to see the correlation between these points that clearly offends you so much.

I concur that wasting people's mean time is wrong. But consider this:

I waited in all day and heard nothing apart from a withheld number that rang my personal line this afternoon. It possibly was them returning my call but I'll suppose I may never know now.

In summary, I don't want to be a burden on anyone and I'm genuinely very grateful for the information that you both you, Guest and Doreen have provided.

But if my lack of computerised skills are offending people then I'll stop emailing this forum.

Kind regards and thanks again for your help

Charles

Charles, no offence taken by me. I'll continue to give you the benefit of the doubt.

I hope you are using the Mudcat forum with the best of intent in which case can I mention that you are getting slightly confused by not noticing the name next to 'From:' above.
The only definite Mudcat member comments on this thread are the ones
'From:Noreen' &
'From:FreddyHeadey'
but Guest.Ed has a good track record too.
It's no skin off my nose but if you were just taking the mickey then I'd say that is for you and your conscience to contemplate as you rest your head on your pillow tonight.

Unfortunately there are a lot of elements which make this thread look like 'spam' or 'trolling'.

As this seems more akin to punk than folk I wonder if your son could get you on to a different forum -get him to try Punk Forum.
Or post some questions to the few other fans who also seem to have found the YouTube videos. But, I should warn you, they might well not be genuine. There really is no way to be sure on the internet but you could ask your son to check what else they have posted on YouTube or if they have any other internet profiles. Certainly don't part with any money to them.

As I said above " I've got nothing to do with the band... " and the music isn't anything that I'm interested in so I don't feel I can help you any further.

Good luck with your further enquiries but I've got to say don't expect too much to turn up.

Freddy,

Sorry about the late reply. I've had some errands in town today. So I do hope this email does not awake you.

Thanks also for clarifying. I'm still at a loss as to why Guest, Ed Guest and Doreen are browned off with me. Or is this an element of 'a trolling' that you level at them?

I will also take your best advice: I will not pay money, anymore.

I shall peruse the other page you suggest and see if they know anything; or have any contact information such as their fax number.

Thanks again Freddy.

CZB

Kind regards to Guest too - hope all is well in your area.

Have you heard anything?
